I have the latest version of Plex server (but the issue is maybe 6 month older).
When I play h.264 1080p animes, transcoding is used with the plex web client and Chromecast (with no subtitles).
First, I’m not sure why transcoding is used, since direct play is used for h.264 1080p movies (on plex web at least).
Second, it buffers a lot. I think my Nas should handle 1080p transcoding. I have to transcode to medium 720p to play it without bufffering.
The HW transcoding is used (confirmed by plex UI). When I disable HW transcoding, there is no more buffering, but then the transcoding almost use 100% of the CPU.
HW transcoding works great for 1080p movies (to 1080p)
