Smart playlists with respect to other playlists

Playlists with respect to other playlists.

I’ve recently swapped over from just raw on VLC mobile, and now that I’ve got a taste of smart playlists I’m hooked.

One specific thing I really wpuld like is to be able to have smart playlists that work in relation to other playlists.

This has multiple functions, but my two biggest examples lie in Christmas music. It is a tag for genre/style, but it’s not too specific, plus there’s some christmas/winter music in non-christmas albums, so I’ve made playlists of Christmas music that I am still in the process of setting up.
I’d like to be able to setup a smart playlist to connect all of those subtypes into a general Christmas music playlist, alongside my more specialized playlists.

Then I’d also be able to take that playlist and use it as a do not include for things, such as my playlists based on rating (which I could then change based on the season, but smart based on date would admittedly be quite ridiclus)

I’m in a similar situation with the tags of showtunes, soundtracks, and some really particular stuff from bandcamp.

Just trying to verify if I understand your suggestion correctly. You want to be able to use a playlist as a criteria when creating other (smart) playlists — either to combine or hide their items.

e.g. hide all tracks of a Christmas playlist from a „common music“ playlist.

If so, there’s already an existing thread discussing that option. In that case, please comment/vote in that thread in order to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes (and closing this one as a duplicate).

I’m the same. I don’t understand why smart playlist and collections can’t “see” each other so they could be used to create another playlist or to filter out another playlist. I use them more for TV shows than music but the backend code should work for all of them.
Also, for TV at least, I’d like the ability for the play by sort to include season & episode number, not just air date. If I have 3 shows in a favorites playlist I want to watch but they all started in different years, I want to watch Season 1 Episode 1 of all 3 shows regardless of the air date before it moves onto Season 1 Episode 2. I don’t necessarily want to watch a whole season or more of 1 show before the next show starts blending in but I still want to watch each show chronologically.
