Smart TV 1gbps network connection - NO MORE BUFFERING!

Server Version#: 1.16.2.1321
Player Version#: (LG) 2.1.0

I had moved over to x-play (and this still works) but I really wanted the native app, well I had issues with buffering for HDR 4K content even in direct play with no transcoding.

Well I did a bit of googling, and it seems that this:

fixes the problem of buffering perfectly. I have a strong 1000mps connection on my switch and I have played my highest bitrate movies (over 90mbit) with absolutely no issues - furthermore you can skip/scan sections and it’s almost instantaneous.

This works on my LG tv, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work on any other tv with a USB connection.

Why oh why are tvs only fitted with 100mbps LAN sockets, I don’t know.

Anyway, x-play, plex, now stream 4k content with HDR processing beautifully.

Whilst wifi is great for mobile devices, I’m still not a fan, so I’m happy I was able to find a solution.

Important to note that the tv doesn’t “see” the connection in the menu, so it says wifi/lan disconnected, but it absolutely works.

I’m sure this topic has been covered before, but I wanted to share my experience and say it absolutely fixed my problem, for £10 it’s worth it.

Good for you! It’s always nice to hear success stories.

BTW: What TV model do you have? What LG is it?

Hi,

It’s an LG 65UJ750V

Cost - and I bet about 1% of consumers actually wire up a TV.

Yep not quite the same model but similar findings back here.

Cost is a bit of a stretch nowdays for a Gbit NIC in my opinion. Just lazy considering the TV is only a couple of years old.

If you’re putting interfaces on your TV at least make them current standard!

But I fear you’re probably right.

Thanks for sharing. I spent ages looking for a solution and clearly am rubbish at googling but wanted to share my experience so that others can improve their experiences.

I’ve fallen in love with the Plex native app again.
