SOLUTION: Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error

Thanks

Are there Application Event log exceptions as you have pasted, for each of these failure times?

Thank you - and corresponding server logs and the time of the crash (it would get adjusted when i view it because of timezone differences)

Plex Media Server Logs_2019-02-14_16-41-06.zip (4.3 MB)

yes, that crash should be in these logs…

Filtered application error logs attached too

Capture app_log.zip (39.1 KB)

And is the crash from streaming a short clip that i can see if we can reproduce the crash with

No, i havent got around to that yet. these errors are from numerous DVD rips - it’s not one movie that cuases this, but any type, as far as I can see, of mpeg-based media.

ill go find somrthing now to make a clip out of any of them - bear with me…

thanks
Alastair

Im happy to stick a copy of any of these files in a new library for you to look at if that would help ?

Plex Transcoder.exe.2648.zip (246.5 KB)

ironman_info.txt (21.0 KB)

Different DVD rip, same error. associated XML info attached too

If reproducible with a short clip, I would need to pass the sample to the development team to debug in their development environment

Have you got any instructions for creating a short clip?

we have a support article https://support.plex.tv/articles/201035968-generating-sample-files-from-media/

if it is a .ts you can just chop. if it is mkv - tools such as mkvtoolnix

for others see the article and may need to do web search

They’re MKV’s - ill grab mkvtoolnix. thanks.

sorry - i do not want to access your library but to have a clip i can download and try to reproduce the crash

So please upload to dropbox or similar service and send me link by private message

done - thanks very much for your help

Hi sorry i had not gotten the chance but i tried to do it again and it seems that the server on the PC no longer plays the trailer also.

It seems that when it was a fresh install on the PC and then i added the files it started working. Once i placed the backup from my synology with all the metadata and all other files it stopped working.

Hi, I started getting this error on remote devices a few days ago, and I have no idea why or what changed. Only things that come to mind is monthly windows updates, or graphics driver update (nvidia rtx2070). Happens on amazon fire 4k, windows 10 and xbox one clients, all using the provided plex apps. If switched to direct play, if possible, works without any problems. Log package provided via PM.

Thank you i ended up trying the time change on the synology system and everything started working again :). thank you again for your help.

Well the errors you are getting are ones previously came with a windows update in July 2018 and Microsoft corrected it with a further update on 16th july 2018. I have mentioned this before that may be microsoft re-introduced the problem recently.

Could you tell me which windows update you suspect?

The errors are always the same failure to read a manifest or segment list and followed by an av_interleaved error

Have been getting some detailed diagnostics from @ben-page capturing loopback packets to see if the devs can get round the problem. See my last post there Recording failed. Please check your tuner or antenna - #218 by sa2000 and previous posts in that thread

i’d suspect the february monthly update rollup for windows 10 (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4487044/windows-10-update-kb4487044), would be the only one that comes to mind and the timeframe would fit (i installed it on 13th of february). i suspect i didn’t notice the problems earlier as most files are played through direct play from my server.

is it possible to roll back to confirm

yeah sure, i can do that tomorrow or sunday, then i will be in touch again, thanks
