Hello everybody, I got the Plex Media Server on my laptop and all of sudden I got this error “conversion failed transcoder exited”
What can I do to fix it?
Thanks!
I have never had this issue before but am getting it now. video will play for a bit but then get the error.
edit: just want to add that this is when watching from chromecast or my phone and tablet. when watching from the puter the server is on its fine so far.
same here, first with all androidtv plex problems, and now with transcodes that affect chromecast, lg tv’s and more…
a bit tired of all.
i never had before this issue with my amd ryzen 2700x and 16 gigs of ram.
my solution was to rearrange my lounge, buy a longer HDMI cable and uninstall the pile of camel crap called plex.
your software is a pile of steaming s**t.
too many issues too often.
My friends started getting this issue yesterady on my server. Started happening for me too today. Had it so far on PS4 App, Firefox, and Android. On the latest version Version 1.13.2.5154
Started getting this today after an update yesterday
So this problem started a few days ago, I thought i found a solution, and that was to set PlexTranscoder.exe to run in Windows 8 Compatibility was only a short term fix, and i Mean like one episode short term.
So here we are all are looking for a solution.
I Get this error on a Minix Neo 6 running Android 4.4.2, so i know i HAVE to transcode BUT, the error will also happen when i use Google Chrome, what i dont understand is why a direct stream from a windows 10 machine (my Media Machine) to another Windows 10 Machine (both fully up to date with all the latest updates of 1803) over a gigalan, why does it even need to transcode?
Anyway back to the problem,
As above all Computers are running windows 10 1803
one Minix Neo 6 Android 4.4.2
PMS Version 1.13.2.5154
No additional codecs are installed.
By streaming over the network and Remoting the Media computer i see that PlexTranscoder.exe starts to run, and as soon as that dies the error message of “Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error.” appears in a message box wherever the video is being played.
One way i have found to get around this is “OpenPHT” as that does NOT start the PlexTranscoder.exe and the family is happy again, but this is no solution for android devices, Plex Media Player or even using a web browser.
So what is the solution, surely someone knows what it going on, because for as far as i can see, this problem has been around for a long time (like 2 years or so) according to other forums and searches on google.,
So to end, and hopefully not get any questions like “what version of this and that are you running”
the Media PC where PMS is located is an i3-7100 3.9Ghz, with 8GB of Ram, Windows 10 64bit on a 250GB M2 SSD with Several different HDD’s as storage ranging from WD red’s to Seagates and Samsung drives.
sfc /scannow has been performed with no problems, yet there is no dump files for when PlexTranscoder.exe stops working, nor is there anything in the Windows Event Viewer.
I have just put on Debug on the PMS, so i cannot share any of those log files yet.
Hope there is a reasonable explanation as to thy this is happening, because like I said this only started a few days ago, yet PMS Version 1.13.2.5154 has been out for a while longer than that.
Thanks for reading my rambelings. Please only reply if you have a solution.
Got the error just this week. Already had re-installed my computer and running the lastest Plex.
Server Windows10 - Player PS4
Here are my logs!
Just started getting this error yesterday. Tried everything mentioned so far with no luck.
Just like most other, I didn’t have this issue until yesterday (I’m pretty sure I’ve been on 1.13.2.5154 for a while now so it’s not the update alone). Since them I getting it very consistently.
I can provide logs if necessary.
I started getting this error yesterday as well. I checked and I had an update thinking that it might solve the problem but it is still there.
Server Version: 1.13.2.5154
Just jumping in to tell, that I am getting this as well, so definitely still an annoying bug that needs to be solved - same version as above.
I also started to receive this error yesterday. A reboot of my computer makes the transcoder stable, but eventually it starts to crash more and more frequently, making the server unusable. Same version as above two people.
Same “Failed to open segment list” and “av_interleaved_write_frame(): Connection timed out” error as previous thread members had as well.
Based on last few posts, I am led to believe this is not an issue on my end, but something that broke at Plex end since it only started happening in the exact same timeframe as the rest of these folks.
Another me too post.
This is happening across my entire media collection. It started within the last day or two. I am on version 1.13.4.5251. I can’t find anything to suggest this is attributable to my hardware or my network.
Started getting this error yesterday. Any update or response from PLEX on this issue?
As great as the forums might be, how on earth do we get this message through to the developers, surely they need to get wind of this error
I literally just started getting this problem today. Was working fine this morning and now on the train home from work consistently happening.
Now i did make some changes to my htpc last night which may help round down the problem. (havent made any other changes in months)
I installed/updated both 32bit and 64bit java.
I updated graphic card drivers (nvidia gtx 1080)
I seteup a new version of a cryptocurrency miner.
My money is on the graphic card driver.
Some windows patches have force installed also the last couple days. Fkin windoes 10 grrr
Are the people who started having this issue in last 2 days using Windows 10? That seems to be the root cause, at least for all the recent complaints.
I think a recent Windows 10 update (around Tuesday) might have broken Plex. Can someone from the team please comment? This and the recent issues with LG have left my Plex Server mostly useless, which is frustrating because this is the first time in 5 years that I have felt Plex has really dropped the ball.
I glowingly endorse it to everyone, but in the last few weeks, we got a disastrous mobile app update, Xbox audio was broken, webOS was down a few times, a horrible update was pushed to webOS, and now this. Not sure what changes have happened at the company end to prompt the recent mess but would really appreciate someone at least acknowledging this issue.
I was loving plex, using my laptop as server and casting movies to my Samsung TV. Since yesterday its not working properly anymore. And I don’t think I have another solution like plex to use with my Samsung TV, unfortunately.
Why hasn’t anyone from plex said a word in this issue?
Found a real solution. Switch to Emby and forget Plex.
