SOLUTION: Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error

Is the 10 minute clip unplayable ? On all plex apps ? I am playing it ok in Plex Web

I am facing a similar issue, which I’d reported under Plex ATV client app. Same error, running Plex docker on Unraid. Streaming works to IOS, but not to TVOS. See full logs in my original post.

I have this issue which has rendered my Plex Server unusable. Can’t play in web client, can’t watch on tv using Google Cast… This error every time. Just started happening after working without issues for years.
I’m running Docker on Ubuntu and use the plexinc/pms-docker:plexpass image and have been running this specific images without issues for about 1½-2 years. Completly broken, not able to play a single movie for the last month or so.

OMG thank you @sa2000 changed this and started working fine. Been trying to get it to work for days now. DON’T Know why plex can’t make it default to your temp directory what idiots!

The error is generic and it could be caused by many different issues

For docker environment things to check as possible causes

  • permissions to temp directory
  • transcode directory held on network share

Get some server logs of the problem with debug logging enabled

Thanks that was making me nuts. Good fix bro.

Just FYI…I’m running a MacBook air server connected to a synology NAS and recently got the dreaded Unavailable on all my content…the Transcoder exited due to an error also appeared when I tried to play. Fortunately I was able to go into my main folders and simply rescan my libraries to resolve the issue. While I’d love to not have this problem at all it was a rather simple fix. Hope this helps someone.

I have a solution not perfect but useful enough: when in my tv I can’t open the film (error transcoding etc) I go to muy Plex server in my Mac and look for this film and open it there. When it begins to play I stop it playing and then go back to my tv. Then open again the same film and it play perfectly

I am having ā€œtranscoder failedā€¦ā€ errors too. I saw the post that says ā€œprovide logs from the server with debug logs and media info xmlā€

Where do I find each one of these and how to I get a fresh Debug/xml file. I want to upload them for support. If there are old log files is it safe to delete the old log files?

@sa2000

I’m receiving the Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error. as well. Can I post my logs for you to look at?

Thank you

sure and time of error please

It is a generic error message which could be due to many different underlying issues

@sa2000 - Thank you! Time was 3:22 pm and the server logs are attached.

Here is my log. Windows is updated and PMS is at the last stable live tv version for my HDHomeRun.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are we any closer to a solution to this issue?

I am getting this error repeatedly when trying to watch a movie using SRT subs on my Chromecast Gen2. For some reason, the subs are being transcoded from SRT to ASS according to Tautulli.

This is effectively making all my Subzero’d subs totally useless on my main TV.

Based on the logs received so far, are there things that we should check first?

I’m having the same issue playback error conversion failed. the transcoder exited due to error this just started happening recently was working fine until now I checked for updates and updated my graphics card drivers and its still not working I’m using my ps4 to stream to.

What time was the error ?

I’m not sure what time it happened but its every time I play something that requires transcoding I get maybe 5 minutes in and then get the message I haven’t changed anything on that PC
