Some preferences reset on restart

I’m running PMS on Ubuntu 16.04. Whenever I restart Plex, for some reason some preferences reset as well. These include the Library prefs (it unchecks automatic scans and rechecks empty trash automatically) and scheduled task times. However, some preferences stay set (custom port number for example).

The Preferences.xml file is owned by plex:plex and permissions are 600 (rw-------)

Any ideas how this might be happening?

Verify the owner of all files and directories under /var/lib/plexmediaserver are owned by plex:plex.

Easiest way is:

  1. sudo systemctl stop plexmediaserver
  2. sudo chown -R plex:plex /var/lib/plexmediaserver
  3. sudo systemctl start plexmediaserver

If PMS has been installed on the machine before and improperly removed there can be residual traces which cause issues with directory setup.

This simply forces everything to be as it should be.

Now PMS will retain the settings you assign. (do remember to SAVE them)

This seems to have fixed it. Thank you!
