Sony Bravia Plex app

Server Version#: 1.43.4.10903
Player Version#: 2026.19.1 (971050476)

Device: Sony BRAVIA (2015), Android TV 7.0, security patch level Feb 1, 2019 (no further firmware updates available)

Since the latest Plex app update, the TV shows my server as offline. All other clients work fine, both on the local network and remotely (Android phone, web browser, an older LG webOS TV).

Plex Media Server log shows the TV reaches the server but rejects the certificate during the TLS handshake:

CERT: incomplete TLS handshake from [::ffff:192.168.100.102]:48637: sslv3 alert certificate unknown (SSL routines)

Already tried: clearing app cache/data, removing the device from Authorized Devices and re-linking, setting manual DNS on the TV, verifying the advertised server addresses, Secure connections set to “Preferred”, custom server access URL with plain http. The TV’s date/time is correct.

It looks like the TV’s outdated system CA store doesn’t trust the plex.direct certificate chain, and the new app no longer offers the “Allow insecure connections” option to fall back to HTTP on the local network.

Request: please restore the “Allow insecure connections” option (at least for local network), or bundle the required root certificates in the app via Network Security Configuration, so that older Android TV devices keep working.

This is a very common issue and already reported multiple times in the forum.
You figured the reason and possible solutions out correctly.

Right now, the only possible solution is a manual rollback to a previous version of the plex client:

From the ammount of support seen on other issues with the current update and the plex support in general, you should probably consider the worst case: there won’t be a fix for this issue in the future.

Thanks for the confirmation and the link, for now I’m using Plex HTPC on the PC connected to the TV via HDMI, which works perfectly.
