Since upgrading to version 1.18 of the media server, and my muisc library upgrading to use the new meta data, every time it does a scan, it now does a “Sound Recorder” in the process which takes a long time. What is this and what is it doing?
There’s also a lot of network activity, according to the “Dashboard” statistics. The attached screen shot shows the activity that went on for a minute or two, not shown is that it spiked up to about 5-6 Mbps for about 40 seconds or so.
It’s not a one-off thing. Happens for every album I add. If I add several albums the network activity obviously is longer. To be clear, that isn’t downloading metadata, that is uploading to somewhere. The network app I have installed on my system verifies it is outgoing network traffic as well.
I suspect it’s something to do with MusicBrainz AccousticID fingerprinting. I don’t really mind that the fingerprint information is shared, but I can’t seem to find anyplace that verifies that is going to happen.
I deleted a album, plex done a complete rescan of my whole music library and done the sound recorder, took about a hour. Why would this happen when deleteing a album
since my previous post, 7 hours ago, and still after just deleted a album, my music library is still scanning and rescanning and using the sound recorder. What is going on it never took this look before.
Sounds like you’re running into the same problem I have here;
I don’t really think I’ve got any sort of a real answer, and the only thing I can think of from scouring these forums for similar problems, is that Plex stubbornly re-scans and re-scans when it can’t find a match for an album at MusicBrainz. I think that involves creating a MusicBranz AccousticID, trying to match that to their database, not finding one, and starting all over. Again and again.
It doesn’t seem to be a problem they are willing to acknowledge. Maybe you could “bump” up my post to give it another shot at an answer. I’ve frankly given up and shut down the server when it happens.
Yeah that could be whats happeneing, the albums i have problems with are, ut top 40, AT40 and billboard top 100. Which wouldnt have a match on MusicBrainz, so contstanly scans and kicks in the sound recorder to try and get a match.
I have a lot of old vinyl albums and 45’s I’ve ripped, processed to get rid of crackle, etc. Very few of those albums, and almost all of the 45’s are not listed on the MusicBrainz website. So guess what happens?
They are all legitimate releases, and I can find them on other music websites. That being said, the fact that an album match can’t be found at MusicBrainz shouldn’t set off a continuous process to try and match and re-match it.
