I’m going to suggest that perhaps the issue is related to dropouts in the stream. This could possibly explain why it’s so difficult to reproduce. I know that even on HDHRPrime, that Verizon used to do all sorts of things that would throw the stream off kilter. Now, I know last night’s NFL Game was on a OTA channel where I have occasional dropouts.
It is NOT, let me repeat that, NOT difficult to reproduce. If you are believing that sorry line from PLEX then I’d like to discuss some prime real estate you may want to purchase.
I get the file recorded after it is finished, but I never pause the .grab file.
I understand your frustration, but we need to give some credit to Plex… Otherwise, it is not point to discuss. It is possible that the issue wasn’t priority last year, but I think that now it is. I can understand that it could be difficult to reproduce the issue in debug mode. Then, identify the problem is complicated. I am developer and I know that applications behave different in release mode than debug mode. We need to start from good faith that Plex is working now in the problem.
On the “difficult to reproduce”
100% of the time
Android client 1st FF click works. 2nd FF click progress bar goes to end and video freezes
100% of the time
Win10 PMP every FF click starts video from beginning
I cannot make it not happen. I have a Win10 PMS. Not some rare oddball configuration. Its very easy to reproduce.
Yes, but we use release product, not the debug version. I am not trying to justify Plex, but I can understand when they say that it is difficult to reproduce to debugger attached. They are not telling that we are not having trouble, but they cannot reproduce the issue in controlled scenario.
I don’t want to be too technical, but you can read this: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/933739/what-is-the-difference-between-release-and-debug-modes-in-visual-studio
Anyway, I just want to believe that they are working in the solution and they are acting in good faith.
The issue is NOT difficult to reproduce.
Easily replicated on all versions/platforms.
Give them credit for WHAT? NOT knowing DVR 101? NOT a priority? Have you ever used a DVR? ANY DVR?
If they were acting in good faith they wouldn’t be silent!
I can’t believe this is still isn’t working. It is literally 100% repeatable on Roku even with a 30 minute show. Also please put a link to the recording in the TV Shows folder. So stupid you have to go to the guide to start the stream.
NFL preseason started tonight for me and I will not tolerate another season of using Plex. I just came here to see if there were any better alternatives. No sense to prolong the agony, time to move on. Thanks.
I’m a little conflicted. With the amount of Plex hate in here lately, I can’t say I blame Plex for not showing up to participate in the conversation. But on the other hand, we’re their customers and it is their job. The most frustrating thing to me is how little communication they’re engaging in after this long. At this point, simply saying “we’re working on it” without doing a little PR to acknowledge how long people have been waiting and to give us a little more insight is borderline disrespectful.
Like others, I’m also feeling a little tricked. I first downloaded a free version Plex a little over a year ago when we got our NAS set up. I was really impressed from the get go, and knew that when we moved into our new house, we’d want to use the DVR functionality. I decided to get a lifetime pass right then, even though I didn’t have use for the premium services yet. My reasoning was that the company really seemed to deserve it, and I knew I’d want to use it eventually.
Fast forward to June of this year, and I was in my house with my shiny new HDHomerun. Time to finally make use of the Plex Pass. I was excited to have a DVR again, and my wife was excited to have her friends over at our new place to watch the Bachelorette. You guys know the rest too well.
I bought a 1-month Emby pass as a stop gap tonight. I’ll stick around with the hope that Plex starts communicating with us like we’re customers and with the hope that they get this fixed. I’d like to think that I was right last July- that they do deserve our money and that they will redeem themselves.
When I rewind the video goes backwards often. Most movies do this.
Why is this happening?
Just adding another complaint. Girl friend was watching a program that was recording live. Unable to time shift and wasn’t very happy about it.
Just purchased monthly subscription to Channels DVR. It does really work well. For live TV on the ATV 4K it’s also the better option - fast channel switching and smooth deinterlacing. It also does non-destructive auto commercial skipping which I prefer. Overall I think it’s the better option for TV/DVR but I would switch back if Plex figures this out to avoid the extra charge. I will still remain a plex pass user for the media server functions.
After several months of this… yes, mine worked until this spring, I had no problems 1 year ago when I signed up it worked perfectly. And the lack of feedback from Plex about the issue, and no apparent request for community help (I think there are plenty of us out there that would be willing to help, at least I would), I am finally done with Plex at least until they figure this thing out.
I installed Emby and played with it for about a week now, I am not in love with the interface it is hard to tell what I am looking at, at least on the FireTv interface. But IT WORKS! I use this feature EVERY NIGHT for our local news and we always start 10-15 minutes in. So this is a MUST HAVE feature… seems to me to be a very basic feature. I don’t think the quality of the stream is quite as clean as Plex, but on a 32" tv it is just fine. Also the skip forward/back is not as snappy as Plex… but again, it works, so…
Maybe Plex will give up on all the new bells and whistles and put some serious effort into figuring out and fixing this problem… I get that it can be difficult, I am a software engineer also and sometimes debugging can change the whole system so that it behaves differently, but that is no excuse to have a system with broken fundamental functionality.
I believe Elan gave you the answer earlier in this thread or the other hot thread when he told one user he’d be blocked if he continued to flag him. Basically you’ve been told that bringing bad news and/or identifying critical problems on a regular basis will get you blocked from the conversation. I’d bet a nickel that the devs/mods/ others have permission to act accordingly. You’re not even part of “THEIR CONVERSATION” any longer. I hope I’m wrong and would love to pay that nickel but …
Elan already knows about the issue. Pinging him multiple continuous times won’t make the fix come faster. The Live TV&DVR team are working on this issue it has just proved to be difficult to pin down.
You need to calm down a bit. It’s just television.
YUP it is and I’m perfectly calm. Sorry if honest dialog makes you uncomfortable. Perhaps you need to mature a bit??
