Tested Kodi with NextPVR with the Preseason NFL game. Worked perfectly. I could FF by commercials, rewind, pause, all the things you would expect you could do with a DVR.
I know it been beat to death on this thread, but really. An old piece of free software works (much) better than what I’m paying for in Plexpass? Well over a year and no fix.
Update here on alternate options while waiting for a fix. Emby is working well for DVR and time shifting using windows 10 pc as server and all Android clients (including Nvidia shield). I had an issue with vc1 video files playing back on shield but I just ran a batch reincode to h264 and it finished in 72 hours… Fixed. Remote streaming is working fine and no issues with hardware accelerated transcoding on Intel cpu. Subs work fine. It takes forever to change channels on TV tho. There are some goofy quirks with occasional fail to open, some minor gui bugs, and I agree it does not look as polished as plex but overall it WORKS. Basically it took a week to set up and iron out minor issues but now we are set for football season and I’m not relying on multiple apps. I realize this is off topic to an extent and I don’t intend for this to be a shot at plex, rather just adding to the “solutions while waiting” conversation. Ill be canceling plex pass till a fix is in, then I’ll try it out and see if it is worth it to switch back.
Lot’s of Pre-season NFL games to test with this weekend… NextPVR and Channels DVR seem to be the best choice to enjoy games without any glitchy playback while watching and recording at the same time… Plex is getting left behind by the competition…
I’ve got the same issue (on win10 server and hdhomerun), I just did the grab folder added to library workaround and seems to work decent with my initial testing. The scraper doesn’t seem to pick up the show correctly though. Has anyone figured out a way to have the scraper work for the grab folder for in progress recordings?
“poking”? Really? Are you a child? I’ve paid for a lifetime pass based on your products ability to record and playback. Playing a currently recording program is as basic as it gets and a KEY feature. We’ve had that ability since the first TIVO was delivered in 1999.
I’ll be switching to the TIVO Bolt OTA once it supports streaming recorded content to media players like Roku, Apple TV. They have a team that KNOWS what we users need and software developers that have delivered for over 20 years.
Block is back on the tv and the wife is raging that she cant start the recording from the beginning,
after serveral updates on the server and clients it seems to give you the option to starting from the beginning more but when you do select it it just shows live tv.
Maybe Plex should consider employing a developer from nextpvr or mythtv as they have not seemed to have any issuse in making this work, mythtv had this working 15 years ago
I’ve just done some testing on plex web and the android client. The android client seems to jump in at the live point, even if you select “watch from start”, but, it does seem that I can get back to the start (by repeatedly hitting the back 10 sec button).
The web version seemed to respect the “watch from start”, but after exiting and coming back in again the behaviour is pretty flaky. The second time around I said watch live and then I wasn’t able to get back to the start, stopped it again and said “watch from start” and it didn’t really work that time. So, it seems a little better, but presumably there are more fixes to come.
Perhaps all this has actually fixed (as stated in the change log) is that the “Watch from Live” option will always appear now, even if it doesn’t work very well still.
As Elan mentioned, there are a few different things at play here. Some server side, and some client side. We’re working to get them resolved, and working consistently.
