I believe I found the bug there and squashed it. The preview channel has been updated to v6.5.1. Please give that one a try and let me know. Thanks again for the info!
It appears to be working perfectly!

I just installed 6.5.1 preview, without question, you have made things better for scanning live TV for Roku, thank you! (testing on a 4k streaming stick) Although I am experiencing some very long waits sometime when scanning multiple times. For example, when watching live tv, I won’t know how long to scan through commercials , so I start and stop several times to get past commercials, eventually it will become very sluggish to playing maybe take 20 to 30 seconds, with the percentage progress pausing at some number. Thank you for the great work, but please continue on tweaking and optimizing. Man, it would be great if you could provide thumbnails for live recordings (instead of post processing) that would making scanning live TV a lot easier!
You can. It needs to be turned on. I’m not sure roku can use this feature though.
I don’t think it’s possible for us to show those images for a Live stream, I think it only applies to library content
I cant believe people pay for Plex TV Pass. This issue has been going on since 2018!!! Since a couple days I cant even delete recordings from the Apple TV Plex app. The Fire TV App has a sync loss of a few seconds, but I can delete the recording. So the ritual is to watch a recording on Apple TV and delete it on Fire TV. Crazy!!!
Yes. A million times yes. Before we went back to actual cable, we had tried using our cable companies live streaming solution. It was a hot mess, however, it did show thumbnails when seeking and made things a breeze when seeking.
Yeah, obviously not sure how that would work, but it’d be awesome if it could be looked into.
Yes you’re right.
@ljunkie I tried Roku Preview 6.5.1 with PMS 1.19.1.2360. I was recording “The Price is Right” and started watching it about 15 minutes into the show. The time shifting is still definitely messed up using my Roku. Fast forwarding appeared to be ok, but when I would go too far and back up a few clicks, It was jumping all over the place. Also note I have “Allow MPEG2” unchecked so my server is transcoding the Live TV not direct streaming.
On a positive note, the progress bar does seem to be working better.
I think I just found this piece this morning, and I’m working on isolating this right now. If you can replicate this again, please try seeking all the way to the beginning, then seek to the time you want. That is not a fix, just a possible workaround and a confirmation of the same issue I just found.
Yeah I saw the same results, still have to jump around a few times for it to work. For instance, was recording/watching Live TV. After a few minutes I tried going to the beginning which it would not. It kept starting a few minutes into the recording and wouldn’t allow going to the actual beginning. I then right clicked to “Live” and played for a moment and then left clicked to go to the beginning and it then went to the actual beginning. Hopefully that makes sense. It’s definitely noticeably better than it was, but not quite there yet. Thank you for your efforts.
I stopped the stream and went back in, and messed around with time shifting again and couldn’t replicate the issue, so it’s intermittent. Will continue to mess around with it to see if I can help find a rhyme or reason.
After numerous attempts throughout the day, I can easily replicate time shifting still not working properly on the Roku with 6.5.1
I there a preferred set of steps that can be used to test the various functions of the live TV time shifting bug(s)? I too am on 1.19.2630 and Roku devices with both Plex and Plex Preview apps installed. I had a miserable time with time shifting last night on the standard app, but the preview app appeared to work just fine - only tested for a short time though. I’d be happy to test more and dig up logs (tell me what to look for) but I want to make sure that we’re all trying the same steps, etc.
While Roku 6.5.1 should have improved time shifting compared to the official channel, we are still aware of one more bug that will get fixed shortly. I expect to have another preview release ready soon. I’ll post when it’s available. Let’s start verifying once we have that update available. Thanks for working through us with this.
Sounds great. I’ll be looking for it.
We were able to watch show from beginning while it was being recorded running 1.19.1.2630 server and Roku public release channel and fast forward. So far so good! Thanks!
I’m interested to see what this last bug fixes. I had mine tuned to a single channel for a few hours this morning. I was able to skip to any one of the 3 or 4 shows that had played during that time without any issue at all. Could be my mind playing tricks, but it also seemed to return to the program much quicker after seeking too. Note: I went backward and forward a few times to check. Both worked great.
Setup:
Roku Ultra
Plex 1.19.2630
Plex Preview channel
Hauppauge quadHD tuner
Linux mint 19.3 with 4.15.0-88xxxxxxx Hauppauge custom kernel
@mk1277 @pbenzschawel @Noah0504 and others following the Roku updates. We have published one more preview release. This should fix the seeking issue you may run into during Live TV playback.
Excellent! Happy to hear it.
Glad to hear it! It’s possible you may not be hitting the scenario during the playback session that exhibited this last bug fix. The primary issue is that seeking may have been off when the PMS had to prune the capture buffer.
Thank you! Will give it a try.
So far so good! I tried my best to make it not work and couldn’t! I’m so grateful that this is hopefully finally fixed! Can’t thank you enough!
EDIT: So I let live TV run for an hour or so and went out for a run & bike ride. When I came back, Live TV was still playing, but time shifting was messed up again.
Tried skipping to beginning and end of recordings and it wouldn’t. It would skip to random spots in the middle or no matter what start in the same spot. This was with 6.5.2
Well how about it @Smokindog, is it working on your Roku now?
