the first modern DVR to give me dual live buffers (like DirecTV or Tivo) gets my lifetime subscription. I want to be able to turn on the TV and backup the buffer 60-90 mins on the channel i I leave it set.
Yea, Win7 Media Center did it too, spoiled all of us. A registry hack could take the buffer to several hours.
@DaveBinM - I was wondering if you have any update on the TimeShifting function (back to the start) for a recording using ATV4K and MacOS Plex server?
Rather than getting grumpy, just want to know if there is an update, because your last posts indicated that Plex knew and acknowledge problems exist, however I am unaware of (an announced) fix, plus my setup at home still does not work.
You’ll need to be a bit more specific about the issue and the action taken to jog my memory, I’m afraid
@DaveBinM - sorry this thread has been going on so long I thought you would remember. I cannot use TimeShifting to go back to the start of a DVR recording, while the show recording is in progress. In your previous posts on this thread you indicated that Plex knew this was a problem, and were actively working on this to get it resolved, however you could not give a date when the Plex development team could say it would be fixed by - which I totally understand. I was just wondering if progress has been made?
Post #877 is an example of this acknowledgement to the wider audience.
Well I’ve finally decided to replace the Plex DVR with Channels DVR. Still kept the rest of Plex which I like. Of course I had a Roku stick in that particular TV and Channels DVR doesn’t , to my research, support Channels DVR so I bought a Fire Stick which does natively support Channels DVR. Now the DVR works beautifully and it has nicer features when watching live recordings. All I can say is that it’s tough to get a perfectly feature rich core-cutting configuration for all settings. As far as the Plex folks trying to fix this; I feel for you. I’ve been in software design at an enterprise level for decades and understand the challenges. Good luck!
Oh, that stuff shipped months ago. The only timeshifting issue I’m aware of is the one mentioned here: Start Watching Recording in Progress from Beginning(Failing)
Well I thought I’d drop in to report that everything, including slow and frequent failure to tune is still broken on the ROKU Stick+, ROKU 2019 Ultra, and Pre-2019 Ultra.
Using W10 on beefy i7 based machine with SSDs, a Gb wired network for the Ultras (single switched access), and a robust professionally design AC wireless network for the Stick+. Tuners are Hauppauge quad-PCI.
Time shifting is worthless and most every problem listed in this thread is still easily reproduced.
GREAT JOB! As stated above about a month ago, there is only one bug left, none of it works
See post above, nothing works on the ROKU.
I’m currently using an HDHR Prime from SiliconDust and not having any issues with tuning (I’ve previously used their OTA tuners). Tuning on a Roku is slower than other devices, but no issues with it.
Are you sure PMS and the Roku Plex channel are both up to date? If they are, then I have no idea. The issues have all been resolved for me. We use live TV and DVR almost every night.
Yes, everything is up to date and nothing is working. I’ve reported that before. I always make sure things are up to date before posting.
It’s not just slow tuning it’s outrageously slow tuning and if I read the thread, this has been going on for a long time.
I also saw a post where you don’t even have a current ROKU device. Is that still true? If so, how are you making the determination that everything is fine? I’ve seen you post a few times in this thread that everything was fine when others said just the opposite.
What device are you using “every night” as you say?
Just triple checking then.
Yes, tune times are slow, I agree. However, channels always tune. Are you having issues with that or just tune time?
Not sure which post that was.
We have a Roku TV downstairs and 2 Roku Roku Streaming Stick+ upstairs. I do have issues with interlaced MPEG2 on the 2 devices upstairs, so I have direct play for MPEG2 off for those. The Roku TV works great.
So when you say “everything is working nightly”, which device are you referring to. I can guarantee that nothing is working anytime on the 3 ROKU devices I’ve listed, as it has been since day 1 almost 2 months ago for me and, based on this thread, since the initial release for everyone else (on the ROKU platform and apparently on the ATV4K as well). Those two platforms comprise a large percentage of the streaming community in the real world. Perhaps PLEX fans only use the Shield but PLEX won’t share with us, I see some have asked.
As to tuning, as I said, failure to tune is as likely and success and it takes a LONG time to tune (10s of seconds). Again, been reported consistently in this thread.
Not trying to beat a dead horse or anything else but you consistently seem to be the lone person reporting that ROKU works. You should go buy a lottery ticket.
PS - ROKU TV is a different platform as far as I know from the stand alone devices and can’t be used for comparison purposes. I’m only interested in the stand alone devices.
It’s working on a Roku TV and a Streaming Stick+. I do not direct play MPEG2 on the Streaming Stick+, however, as it has issues with interlaced MPEG2.
I experience slow tune times, probably around 10 seconds or so, but tuning works for me. I’m using a HDHomeRun device though.
Reporting that it works now. I’ve experienced all of the issues with watching an in-progress recording from the beginning and the time-shifting nightmare.
See some of the posts that got time-shifting working for me
Part of it was this:
Part of it was this:
As far as I know, it’s the same platform and runs the same client app. Either way, I have 2 stand alone devices and they work as well.
Well I just tested again with the latest release of the server and I ran an update on the client.
I’m just amazed at how many things work for you!
It just doesn’t work, for me, period. Go buy yourself a lotto ticket
I bought Emby, all is well here now.
What guide data provider do they use? Is it more reliable and accurate than the PLEX guide which is pretty bad?
I think it’s Gracenote, works well here in Southwest Ohio, I get both the Cincinnati and Dayton markets.
I am almost tempted to buy a ROKU device just to see if it works in my environment or not. I just don’t know what I would do with it after testing as I personally can’t stand the interface or platform.
Exactly which ROKU devices do you have that are not working? Are they current models? Do they sell them at Walmart?
Still no joy on time shifting or other issues on the ROKU.
I use Stick+, and both the pre and post 2019 Ultra devices. I’ve got a Stick in the master bath but I never do anything other than “view” back there
I’ve read this thread multiple times (OK I skimmed it mostly), but Noah seems to be the only one ever to report success with ROKU and it’s always followed by a “no, it really doesn’t”. It may function better on a ROKU TV but I’m pretty darned sure that’s a completely different code base than the stand alone ROKU devices.
I’ve tried this is in multiple environments around the neighborhood and/or received input from many others. It’s pretty much uniformly SNAFU
