We all love PLEX and respect and love the Developers for all the hardwork they do on PLEX. This poll is designed to put a little meat to my request that I feel others will join in on…
I know LIVE TV was a thing for you guys. I respect that it is a first of sorts, certainly in the way of PLEX. However, there are a lot of changes going on to the interface that no one is announcing, stuff that is working ‘ish’ that needs shoring up, and consistency changes (huge) that need to be done. Here at the house we have Chromecast, Fire TV, PC’s, iOS apps, Android apps, XBOX 360, XBOX ONE, and various smart TV’s using PLEX. (Thank you, we LOVE THAT). BUT getting to a feature on one system is either impossible or hard to do because of the differences in the clients. It would be great to have a consistent user experience for all devices.
A good example of that is getting from a specific show to the season or seasons for that show. Example… I come across something I’ve been waiting for Sonarr to grab like Westworld. It apparently started a month ago and I missed the adds, or downloaded out of order. I need to start at S01E01 and S02E4 is showing (this is fictitious of course because there is only one season of westworld so far). On the XBOX ONE there is a button on the left side that says GO TO SEASON OR SHOW or whatever. On the iOS Client you have to click the name of the show (or the little arrow next to it, I’m actually unsure at this point), on the samsung smart tv there doesn’t seem to be a way, and so on.
Another for instance is transcoding mode. On the XBOX it uses the trailer icon I believe and you have option to select auto, streaming, transcoding, direct. On the PC there doesn’t seem to be a way to select it anymore, and on the fire you have to start the show, then click the gear icon and switch (which is assuming you could get it running with the default method to begin with). Lately I’ve seen quite a number of shows or movies that won’t run until I try each one, and then I it will go. Sometimes I have to just delete the movie and blacklist it so I get a different version.
I don’t want to keep this going because I’m sure there are bug reports, lists, request, etc… that outline all these things. As I said I want to put a little meat behind this request so you know it is important, or so that I know it isn’t as important as I think it is! I’m willing to accept either way. I have also posted this in the Plex Pass only section as to avoid effecting any potential sales with a complex situation that simply wouldn’t be understood/received well by someone without a plex pass. They either wouldn’t know what I was talking about and might not buy thinking there were issues, or might hold off on pulling the trigger. Either way funding your terrific and earth shattering change of life software is more important. At least to me. I’m assuming to you as well.
