Store podcasts on Plex server workaround (sort of)

I’m looking forward to this being implemented, but I think I have a sort of temporary workaround.

I use iTunes to download subscribed podcasts. They are stored on the same hard drive that my Plex server uses for movies / TV. On the Plex server I set up a music section called Podcasts and point it to the Podcasts folder of the iTunes media folder. At that point, if I’m on an iPad I can switch Plex to browse mode and find podcasts that way. Also working on my OpenPHT Raspberry Pi but Android phone doesn’t seem to have a browse mode.

They aren’t properly indexed at the top folder level, but I’m sure that could be done manually.

I get my podcasts by manually updating iTunes - it may be possible to automate that function. Can’t say I particularly like iTunes (horrid on Windows) but it is a way to get podcasts downloaded onto a plex server whilst we wait.

And still the best way since you cannot import, even though they say we can. Also I have no idea where they might be imported to. It seems like we have no control, like it’s not another form of media and should not be considered in the main tree and have similar choices.

is this in the works? so far all comunication I’ve read dodges a clear answer.
Like many I already use pocketcasts and now even google is looking tempting if you have a google home, also Audible also had the idea to make the app more versatile, but I think if plex is to offer something of value is it’s true purpose to store our own copy on our server and audiobooks as well…

I think they mean import as in OPML format, not the physical files… :frowning:
