Store UI Customizations in User Account

I love the ability to customize the new Plex Client Home screens. Lets me organize the things I use and ignore the stuff I don’t. What I don’t like is having to duplicate the same customization on each client I use.

So what I’d like is if we could store the customization in our Plex user account (and Plex Home sub-accounts) and then use it on any client that supports customization when we log in. So my phone, iPad, roku3, and roku ultra would all be the same. Then a buddy comes over and logs into Plex on my Roku Ultra and it loads his customization. Now my Roku looks like it’s his while he’s logged into it.

Edit: 2020-02-18 Removed my vote as this has kind of been added. Wanted to move a vote elsewhere.

This would be the bomb if the developers could pull this off.

Be sure to VOTE!

At the very least it would be nice to have the option to store the current customization’s to a template(s) (that you name) so you can easily and consistently apply them to each new client with just a click or two.

I have wanted this for so long! Please make it happen!

Not just store. Would be good to be able from central point for those with parents or kids using PMS. Then as ADMIN you can help adjust their presentation without having to drive across town or farther to do it in person.

I’m bumping this feature request as it’s going to be more and more important as UNO continues to roll out across all platforms.

Vote Early! Vote Often! ;^)

I voted for this early on but its really starting to get on my nerves. This is now the worst part about the UNO UI.

Voted.

Also, Would be nice to have some of the Categories within Settings saved too (At least the ones that are compatible across devices), Like the Main, Audio & Video sections of Settings. Having these saved would help some not so tech savy users to be able to setup a new device with ease without having to change settings like…

-Auto Sign In
-Remote/Local/Online Video Quality
-Volume Boost
-Subtitle Size, Position & Colour
-TV Themes Music
-Cinema Trailers

I know most devices that run Plex have these settings listed above. I share with 6 Family/Friends that have roughly 11 devices, & 3 devices that I own. Basically I end up have to help them or manually configure these devices which can get a bit tedious after awhile. These settings don’t hurt & are universal. Please consider this also. Thanks!!

No more votes left, but I want to add my support for this.

We have about 6 AppleTVs and several Macs and iPods and iPhones accessing the PMS, each with up to 5 accounts and every combination has to be individually configured. This is simply stupid. Especially as I’ve just set up a new PMS and so every ‘player’ has to be configured ALL OVER AGAIN. I cannot overemphasise how monumentally annoying this is.

Truth is, every single one is the same. So why do I have to do it, what 60+ times? Setting every single one to the exact same config. Why can I not set this ONCE from the admin account on the actual PMS and all users, whatever the client/player/device gets that same config?

I’m not talking about very personal choices like colours or other ‘thematic’ configuration. The big problem is setting up the nav. panel on the LHS. On many clients it is simply a PIA with each individual library having to be moved on its own. Then choose re-order and do it all again for the next one. Probably a dozen times for each player/account combo. So that means… you do the maths. It’s a LOT.

I realise it is possible that some users may have fewer libraries available to them than others, but that’s easy to cope with. Anything that’s restricted, don’t show it. Simple.

Even if I spend the time setting up every combination, if at any time I add or change a library, I have to modify every single one again.

I had forgotten how appalling this is. I gave up trying to keep everything the same, but now with the new server I’m discovering all over again what a nightmare this is.

Just when I was really enjoying some of the new features and how I generally love the way Plex works. Then this. :grimacing:

C’mon Plex, a monkey could do better.

I have used Plex since its Inception as my media server. I have been using it for about 15 years.

The apps have been a great addition, but the sheer number of times I’ve had to set up my device settings is unbelievable!!

Oh, there must have been an update. I’ve been logged out of Plex on my TV..

I then Login.. Oh, look. not only has my device forgotten what my settings for this device were, but they weren’t saved in the cloud or even to my media server for this account on this device.

We have an online account with Plex ?? Why doesn’t our device preferences save to our online account ?? This could easily be done with a JSON file to remember settings in the cloud per device !!

Or even save them to our Plex Media Server so they can easily be auto-restored.. I must have done the above setup about 5 million times !!!

One of the most important user features, ignored for 6 years by developers..

The bugged ability for users to request a transcode from a server where Transcodes are turned off? ignored for 7 years..

The Ability to combine servers into one library, like JellySwarm “Ignored“ !

Ability to add .NFO or XML files so you don’t have to retype all the metadata for your thousands of home-recorded videos, if your Plex DB goes down? “Ignored“

Ability to use a TV Capture card that only works in the southern mountain regions of Afghanistan? Developer’s Top Priority !!

Drown out my Plex media with what’s on my Services like Netflix, A service I own and have the app installed on My Device.. Which i could see by opening the App? Plex pushing me away from Plex? Developer’s Top Priority !!

I’ve had my money’s worth out of my 2x Premium Plans from Plex, but I’m thinking its seriously time to move to Jellyfin.. Plex is clearly going in the wrong direction..

Do people who work at Plex actually use their product and understand the problems with their product? Clearly Not !!
