Seriously, why does this not exist yet? This puts Plex miles (and even more miles) behind XBMC imho. I switched to Plex recently but without a proper subtitle plugin like the one in XBMC i’m seeing myself running around the house changing everything back to XBMC again.
the opensubtitles agent for movie subs and the bierdopje agent for TV show subs (dutch/english subs only) are working quite well for my subs needs.
what are the kind of improvements you would like to see?
I once had the idea of making a [periscope](http://code.google.com/p/periscope/) agent, but it turns out I lack the skills to successfully do so ;)
I believe this is similar to what XBMC is doing (getting subs from a number of different locations depending on language)?
The subtitles are ok when they work. But i'd like an option to manually search subtitles from the Plex OSD. Sometimes other subtitles are in sync but not found by the plugins because the hashes don't match.
Me3! Really miss this
+1 Definately
In a perfect world using automatic download would be the way to go. However in this world you must often go through a handful different subtitles before you find a good one, making triggering a manual selection is a must really.
And while we’re at subtitles: Would it be possible to let the user assign subtitle delay +/- to certain physical buttons during playback? I do this with XBMC, and it’s a great relief when you occationally run into a subtitle with timing issues.

The only reason I haven’t move completely to Plex is the lack of this feature.
XBMC has it and it is great, especially when you are streaming and able to get subs on the fly.
+1 for this feature! I just wait and wait update that fix all subtitle problems, like support to all general formats, before that i really have to use XBMC because most my of movie has .SUB subtitles and because for that i dont see any subtitles on them, and REALLY that sucks.
Could any from the PLEX dev team kindly let us know if this task has been or will be picked up for development. And could the feature found in XBMC be ported to PLEX as a quick win solution?
Thanks

This is a killer feature in XBMC - it is so easy to look for a subtitle in XBMC while playing the movie.
Most people who use subtitles must have experienced subtitle problems just when starting to watch a movie - and then the wife gets upset, not again!
-> Then I have to quit plex,
-> open Finder/explorer, find the folder where the movie is located, take note of the exact folder/movie name,
-> Open a browser, google for subtitles with the correct name/etc,
-> Save subtitle file into right folder, unpack (depends on format),
-> Start up plex again, locate the movie, play it, locate the subtitle (unless it was renamed earlier to match the exact folder/file name of the movie)
So, 5-10 minutes later I may have a subtitle - back in Plex I may notice once again that the subs are not in sync, so then I have to restart the whole procedure…you get it.
Main reasons for subtitle problems:
- there are no subtitles in the movie, or none in the right language
- Plex has not downloaded any subtitles for this movie (not available at the time when the movie was added to PlexMediaServer?)
- the subtitles downloaded by Plex are not in sync with the movie
I hope it is possible for someone to create a subtitle plug-in/addon that enables the same type of functionality as in XBMC, i.e. to search from inside Plex, while a movie is running/paused
This is the only reason why I’m using XBMC instead of Plex.
Please, a little of consideration for the non english speakers!!
A simple GUI window inside Plex, that uses Subliminal for example, would be great!
I have been waiting for this feature for a long time, and I am also one of those who still uses PleXBMC for this awesome subtitle download feature. Please implement it soon…
It should be easy as Martin mentioned to just implement subliminal or periscope (both are simple subtitle download scripts) in the GUI.
+1!!
+1!
Hope to see this implemented soon.
I’ll add my vote to this
Any update on this? I’m planning to get install XBMC (and get rid of PMC & PMS), only for this plugin…
Adding my vote for this as well…
Yes, this is definitely a must have.
I cannot go back to Plex because of Subtitle is missing.
Maybe we could get help from the xbmc plugin’s dev?
Please implemented this soon, its a must have for pled, only reason for still use xbmc +1 too
