Can confirm this happening, on Samsung Galaxy S25+ S23+ smartphones and Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 tablet. And not just that, subtitle color cannot be changed as well. Only white works with the black background!
All three of my devices had this issue when updating the app to version 2025.32.0. Every app started working properly again, after installing the previous 2025.31.1 version back on them.
Edit: My server version is 1.43.0.10389
Confirmed same issue on Samsung Tablet.
I can also confirm this issue on my Galaxy S25 and OnePlus Pad 3, both on version 2025.32.0.
My server version is 1.42.2.10156.
An update has been released to the beta today (12th January 2026), now with version number 2026.0.0 and the bug still exists! Waiting for fix!
I just tried with 2026.0.0 and could not reproduce. Are these just SRT subtitles? Embedded in video file or separate?
Man, lots of issues started with the recent betas (after 2025.32.0) They are driving me nuts. PiP is not workingly correctly as well. The issue is probably related. Had to leave beta and get latest stable. Please dont move the recent iterations to stable you gonna kill the app UX
Thanks for reports I could not reproduce but one of our moderators could and i have their logs added to bug report.
Thanks BigWheel.
I’ve already noticed 3 bugs on the Plex Beta app (>=2025.32.0)
The white on black background sub bug
Picture in picture doesn’t shrink to the ‘picture’ size, PiP does work but the floating player reproduces the video very zoomed, like it’s in the original size and floating window is just “cutting” it
Crazy bug that I should probably test more, but if the English original and commentary tracks have the same codec, changing between when it’s already playing doesn’t switch the track. I was not able to reproduce with commentaries on AAC (while track is EAC3/AC3)
Hey!
Both embedded and separate srt files do this.
Bug report shows the fix will be in 2026.1.0
Server Version#:1.43.0.10467
Player Version#:2025.0.0

Can not change subtitle attributes (Yellow) from White in black box
Moderator Edit: Moved your post to this thread. @FordGuy61.
This is really bad and I suffer with this my Lenovo tablet as well as pixel 10.
I’m confused oh what I need to downgrade and would really appreciate a steer so I can fix this.
Server version: 1.43.0.10231
Client : 2026.0.0 (966828661)
Server is on public update channel and phone/tablet is whatever play store provides.
I’m assuming that’s a client update. Can you tell us when it’s scheduled for release?
A post was split to a new topic: Embedded .ass subtitles not working properly
My Pixel 6a updated to 2026.1.0.
I can now change the subtitle color and whether or not a subtitle background is displayed for SRT external subtitles.
Yes, I can confirm it works for me too in app version 2026.1.0
