Suddenly Plex Web Can't Play Some Files

Just to keep this forum thread up to date:

I have not been able to reproduce the issue using same sample clip and same version of Plex Media Server and same transcoder options for Direct Streaming the video and audio.

The transcoder appears to get stuck after reading part of the mkv file.

Awaiting more detailed diagnostics - unfiltered procmon capture, rawcap loopback capture and logs and transcoder process dump

I already provided these to you before your comment. Just making sure you didn’t miss that PM

Thanks - just looked at all the diagnostics and the previous set

I am just hoping that it turns out to be a simple firewall rules issue where “PlexTranscoder.exe” is whitelisted but not “Plex Transcoder.exe”

Awaiting details on firewall rules and also LAN Settings in internet options / connections tab and also hosts file

Actually there isn’t normally a firewall rule for the transcoder. There was a recently discovered issue where MalwareBytes Premium was blocking the transcoder and needed to be whitelisted.

Still interested to know what rules exist in the security software running and if adding an entry to allow the transcoder helps

For Plex Media Server 1.15.x it would be
`C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Plex Transcoder.exe"

This issue has been resolved. I found that there was a firewall rule blocking access to “plex transcoder.exe” (with a space). Even though I tested with the Windows Defender firewall disabled in Control Panel, this rule was still in place. After removing this rule, I could again play the rest of my media files.

Thank you so much for your assistance with this and I’m very sorry that it ended up being a problem on my end.
