Does Plex support FLAC files encoded in 24bit / 96 kHz?
Short answer: yes.
Long answer (abridged): You need to have a proper playback environment to achieve it.
(I'll now look for some FLAC files meeting your criteria to test this, in case my "guess" was wrong!)
Well, I don't have anything handy to test it (just 44.1 KHz, 16-bit FLACs here, which play fine).
My "guess" is that if you connect, say, an HTPC to a compatible audio receiver via HDMI, and that the PC is both capable and configured to play 24-bit audio at 96KHz, it should work.
ok thanks, will try
I’d love to know how anyone can accomplish this? Everything is 48/16bit and I have had ZERO success getting Plex to deliver anything better than 96KHz via chromecast!
I’m fairly certain 24/96 FLAC direct play on my Roku. I am using an AVR for audio though.
I will try to check, but I also think 24/192 plays without issue on a Chromecast Audio (I think only 24/96 is officially supported).
The answer to this question is that Plex USED to support 24/96 and 24/192 and multichannel FLAC, but it has been broken for months. Yes it SHOULD work, but it doesn’t. Plex for Kodi works fine…what is wrong with the Plex app?
so with all this Tidal integration is that WHY they’re NOT supporting local music to play at Hi Res???
I hope not. And with PLex not supporting 96k MQA from within the app, like the Tidal app can do, there’s little reason for me to play music in Plex (other than in Kodi add-on). It’s currently the worst of all worlds when it comes to audio playback…unless you REALLY like transcoded 48kHz audio.
Exactly! For a company whose mission seems to be all things media they sure are missing the boat on HiRes audio!
Any update on this? It’s still completely and utterly borken on Shield transcoding everything to 48khz stereo. I’d love to get some attention, acknowledgement or an “F off we just don’t care” from Plex, but the silence is deafening.
Anything?
You would think that since the op was 6 years ago they could at least address it…
Pretty poor show. Can’t believe this is still the case when third party Plex clients can support HiRes audio output.
