Support for Android 5.1 (and Amazon Fire OS 5) devices ending October 21, 2024

As we continue to work to improve our Plex app and better serve our community, we want to announce that we will officially be ending support for Android 5.1 devices. This includes older Amazon devices (e.g., Fire TVs and Fire tablets) running Fire OS 5. This support will formally end on Monday, October 21, 2024. Affected devices are generally already not receiving security and feature updates from their manufacturers, and limitations in the old operating systems prevent us from taking advantage of newer and more advanced system capabilities.

We encourage affected users to upgrade their systems to a device running at least Android 7.1. For the best and most secure experience moving forward—and to ensure your operating system continues to receive critical security updates—we recommend upgrading to a device running Android 12.0 or newer.

While these affected devices running older versions of Android and Fire OS 5 can continue to run the current Plex app release, future app releases will not be available for affected devices and it’s possible that future system changes could affect access to Plex Media Server libraries or other Plex services.

We appreciate your support and understanding.
