Is this gonna happen? Have a android device
Hard to say. Itâs unlikely to get full support, but there have been some improvements. Plex supports m4b files now (insofar as it also supports m4aâs at least); it also uses Musicbrainz as an online metadata source, which is community managed and supports audiobook metadata; and there are third-party apps for iOS and Android that connect to Plex and are specifically designed for audiobook playback.
However, for Plex itself to support album-level resume functionality at this point is unlikely, considering @elan 's responses in this thread, and the myriad of other complex projects Plex has implemented rather than implementing the comparatively trivial feature that is album-level resume. I donât think theyâll do it unless they are motivated by money in some way, because money is what has been motivating their adoption of Parsec, Tidal, and News.
Strange thing is the album level resume is pretty much all they need to do.
Why I still canât find category in library for âAUDIOBOOKSâ?
If you use Plex for your audio books, youâll probably find this useful: https://www.reddit.com/r/AudiobookCovers/
This subreddit is a great resource for audio book cover art for use in Plex.
It looks stunning in Prologue.
PS I am ever hopeful that Plex will create a dedicated âAudio Booksâ library type, with metadata fields for âPerformerâ, âAuthorâ, âBook Seriesâ etc. Prologue is almost perfect but it is hampered by the limitations of Plex.
Whatâs frustrating is neither Plex nor Emby are working on doing this. They both have had some progress, but it all seems half-baked. In either case, it requires a third-party app for playback, assuming you donât want to frequently screenshot your place to use as a bookmark.
there are apps that third parties have developed to fill this gap IE Prologue for IOS. i have kind of used plex for this anyway. just create a music library, click store track progress and add all your audiobooks as if they are music albums
Iâll buy Plex Pass if/when audiobooks are officially supported. (Just Chiming in to voice my support)
I have no idea what all the fuss is about on this topic. I have been using audiobooks with Plex for years without issue - in fact I love it. Very simple to do:
- Use MP3Tag to give correct fields on the audiobook
- Use the audiobooks - Audible Plex-PlugIn , set it as the default Agent
- Manually edit any outliers
I have thousands of audiobooks, and no problems at all.
Cut you make a guide? The outher guides are outdated. Thanks!
lucky you. others are less lucky.
resume does not work most of the time at all. and if it works it will resume at the wrong position to the wrong track. also if intentionally start at the beginning again it happens often that a later track will not be played from the beginning but a resume position. which is wrong if you have started again from the beginning. if resume works at all it works for audiobooks with one or just a few large files. it never works for books consisting of a huge number of small files.
Here is a trick if you lose your place in an audiobook:
Go to Dashboard, and look at your Plex user history. It will show you the last media item you completed. Therefore, you know you are on the n+1 item in a particular set of audiobook files.
this also does not work reliably for me. there are missing tracks. also it is useless if the tracks from multiple disks are all named track1 to trackXX as the history just gives the track title and not the disk number.
you can look at it whatever way you want: all workarounds are just this. workarounds. they might work sometimes but the will never be as good as proper audio book support in plex including plex amp.
I donât understand how they can act like they care about what the users want, but this has been here for years with a crap ton of votes, and they still havenât implemented it. I think adding an audiobook library, or just true support for them would be incredible. Itâs crazy the lengths users have gone to, just to make it happen on their own. Come on Plex team, show us some love here.
Agree and it would seem somewhat trivial compared to some Arcade game thing they released, not sure how many votes that had!
This has the third-highest amount of votes currently.
And still nothing.
Same issue here!
What are the 2 higher ones?
This is really dumb â is it just too hard to implement?
Considering moving to a different platform, what are good alternatives?
