Been trying to add the audiobook agent Audnexus plugin to Ubuntu 22.04 snap install…
All the Docs in Plex point to places that don’t exist. And in one case seems even if I’m root It wont let me install it there…
Wish there was an easy way to install agents… I know Plex doesn’t like the plugins so give us an agent installer or something similar rather than the twisted folder structure of PMS…
It would be great to see Plex pivot away from streaming and back towards being a full time content hosting system!
I have a lifetime pass but would still pay a 5 dollar+ IAP to unlock an AudioBooks as a library type (with metadata support of course.)
They have to focus on revenue. Read the news. The self hosted streaming base is made up of a lot of people who historically don’t pay for stuff.
Get used to disappointment.
Would this feature to consolidate all my listening media under one library.
And neither do they ![]()
Why hasn’t this feature been implemented yet? The purpose of a suggestion forum is to gather feedback and act on it, not to let it accumulate without taking any action.
Come on, Plex. I understand that your streaming service areas are a priority, but let’s not forget that the majority of your customers chose Plex for its self-hosting capabilities. It’s time to pay attention to their needs and make their experience even better.
++++++++1000
Because PLEX is focused on things that generate revenue and right now that is streaming and ads, not self hosted media.
As a lifetime plex pass holder, I would expect my vote counts for new ideas. This thread has been around for several years now. I would have thought with almost 2K votes, this would have been in the works.
I’m a lifetime plex pass holder too and I also want this but I don’t expect it to show up until PLEX is profitable and according to recent news stories, they don’t expect to be profitable for at least 18 months.
Well, I know, but still allowed to ask for it!
Love this idea, please Plex implement this!
I’ve recently begun uploading my audiobooks so I got something to listen to while I work. For the moment it works, but I can absolutely see why the music library type would be an issue once I start adding more books. Books is sorted different then music albums and would benefit from different features.
With the new audiobook plugin I am able to play audiobooks well enough the only thing that would make it better is support for m4b chapters so the currently playing chapter is displayed
What new audiobook plugin are you referring to?
conradseba, Audnexus Agent is the one i use in Plex to match my audiobooks
Greetings, everyone!
After more than a decade and almost a thousand posts, it’s evident that there is a persistent demand for Plex to incorporate support for audiobooks. However, as Plex’s user interface and functionality have evolved significantly over time, the initial request might not align with the current state of the product. In an effort to gain a clearer understanding of what audiobooks should represent as a feature to you, I would like to present a challenge: How would you envision the integration of audiobooks into Plex if you were at the helm of its development? Specifically, how should it function, and what approach would you suggest for handling metadata?
I also wanted to let you know that @McWanke and I are joining forces to give some much-needed attention to forum requests (such as this one) that have been gathering virtual dust for way too long.
Our plan? No more radio silence.
We’re going to dive into your suggestions headfirst and actually let you know what we think. This means that we will actively evaluate and either embrace or respectfully decline suggestions, rather than allowing them to languish in uncertainty. Your input is invaluable, and together, we aim to shape Plex into an even more remarkable platform.
Given there’s a decade of input already here in just this forum alone and audiobooks itself hasn’t changed as a format, I feel as though you ought to focus on the challenges YOU, the development team have first because I most certainly didn’t think that Podcasts were a feature that was going to be pulled and here we are, all scratching our heads as to why the developers and the INC. at Plex didn’t follow through in two areas that are very mature media formats that are not dying anytime soon. Follow the bullet points already discussed and distinguished in this very thread first, bother us when you actually want to talk serious business.
Using audiobooks in Plexamp is okay to even fine, but not great. The biggest issue is Plex not recognizing the chapters embeded in M4B files. Third-party apps like Prologue, Bookcamp and Chronicle (which looks abandoned) do recognize these chapters, whilst still using Plex as the media server.
Looking at these apps for what Plex should offer as audiobook support would be a great start. I would suggest a separate dedicated Plex library with dedicated scanners and a seperate audiobook section in Plexamp which uses that library.
Take a look at this amazing guide on Github and try simplifying the processes written there:
I would agree with the GitHub README.md. This appears accurate in what is required for audiobooks.
So Plex finally cave, decide that transparency and communication is better than leaving threads stagnant… and you’re first instinct was to throw hostility towards the person relaying the message? You raised a good point, but they basically just confirmed that this is now something they are considering and you really need to check your tone before they change their mind.
I too would like to know what technical challenges the dev team might face implementing this feature and why it wouldn’t be as simple as baking options we currently have into Plex and Plex Amp respectfully @chrisallen
