Simple question today, can the plugin framework handle rtmp audio streams? If so, can someone point me to an existing plugin that works with rtmp streams so I can examine it? I've got a few digital radio stations I'd like to wrap into a plugin if possible. Alternatively, I also have access to parallel Windows Media and iTunes (AAC) streams if they're easier to work with?

You should really use the if possible! There are plenty examples out there.
I wouldn't post and ask if I hadn't already searched. From I can find, RTMP audio only streams are poorly supported, not documented and most of the usual guys on here haven't had much to do with them. If you know of any working examples, please, let me know.
If you can access AAC audio streams I would honestly go that route as most clients will probably be able to natively play them back, rtmp is not supported by anything for direct playback aside from PHT as far as I know, and you're right that audio only RTMP is not well supported (nor widely used).
