Hi, I purchased plex membership, but I don’t have enough local space to store video files, so I store a lot of video files in my netdisk, the netdisk files can be played through URL direct external link, but plex can’t read the files in the netdisk. Currently I am using rclone to mount the files in the netdisk on the system, then plex uses the mounted folder as the media library, but in this case, when I watch the video, the media files are relayed through the plex server, and the server bandwidth is not enough, the playback will be lagged. After testing, Emby and fellyfin both support strm direct link, local storage strm file (text file, the content is the video file URL), but not store the video file, this takes up very little local space, and emby and fellyfin clients are direct link URL video file playback, it will not be relayed through the server, so the playback will be smooth! I hope plex can also support video file direct link playback. Personally, I don’t like emby and fellyfin, I want to use plex, so I bought a plex membership, but it doesn’t support direct linking, so I’m torn inside. BTW, I refer to the emby practice of deleting video files in the plex media library and adding strm files, plex is also able to scrape out the correct content, but not play it.
