@ChuckPa how does this play in regards of the freshly released HDR tone mapping? Is it still necessary to hardcode i965 as the igpu driver? Does it affect the tone mapping capacity?
Is this correct? I thought Tone Mapping was still able to use hardware on certain NASās?
Iāve just migrated my pms from native app to docker linuxserver.io image and can confirm that HDR to SDR transcoding works fine even with iHD driver (deleted vaapi i965 line from the preferences file.
i have updated the NAS Compatibility Guide.
As of PMS 1.21.0, the iHD driver bypass is no longer needed.
Thatās great - thank you
Synology DS1520+hows its performing 4K HDR content while transcoding from the plex server. How many peoples it can carry out simultaneously. I am planning to buy this for my plex server or DS1019+ I am a bit confused about which one should I get it
Just wondering plex playback issue fix for DS1520+ or still there.

I updated the FAQ.
Remove the bypass for J4xxx CPUs
Good news about the iHD driver bypass no longer being needed. I bought a DS920+ a couple months ago, and based on FAQ#26, I immediately performed the bypass.
So now I have the opposite problem⦠I read here today that the bypass is no longer needed, and so now I want to remove the bypass. Of course, my aging mind canāt hardly remember what I had for dinner 3 days ago, let alone how to undo what I did months ago. So I went looking for FAQ#26, and it appears to be deleted as well as all of the references to it in the Compatibility Guide.
Perhaps instead of deleting it, can you please re-publish it with an addendum saying that it is no longer needed? This keeps the original reference material in place for folks like us who need to reference it to figure out how to un-do it.
Thank you to everybody for all of the very helpful contributions here.
Thanks much for the quick reply.
trumpy, please accept my apologies for this (most likely) silly question.
Am I correct from your most recent posts that if I purchase a DS1520+, Plex will run without any forseeable problems now?
Thank you.
Apologies for resurrecting this older thread but after reading through it I havenāt been able to ascertain whether the people who purchased and use the DS1520+ are happy with its Plex performance.
Iām planning on purchasing the DS1520+ for sharing my 1080p media files with approx. 8 remote users and was wondering if anyone could tell me how it performs.
Iāve read the Plex NAS Compatibility list however it doesnāt really tell me how well the NAS performs as a Plex server for multiple remote users, plus there arenāt many reviews that I can find describing its multi-1080p transcoding capabilities.
DS1520+ has the same CPU (Celeron J4125) as the DS920+, so youāre likely to find more reviews on the latter.
Direct play for several users will not be a problem, in which case youāre likely to benefit from LAN link aggregation if your router/switch allows it.
When it comes to transcoding, this CPU has an integrated GPU but itās no beast. It very likely wonāt allow two concurrent threads of 4K HEVC transcoding, but might allow a few 1080p transcoding threads. Again, it all depends on what the destination format of the transcoding is.
As usual, if you have several users/concurrent players, try to install Direct Play compatible hardware. Otherwise your NAS will suffer.
If I may augment here?
If performing Video transcoding only - No subtitle burning ā will give you 4 simultaneous video streams.
Dependent on audio, you should be able to handle audio transcoding as well. ( 4 streams of 7.1 ā Stereo is near the edge but 3 streams is OK).
If subtitles are SRT, and the player supports it, with subtitle burning disabled, it will send SRT subtitles as a data stream ⦠which a Synology can handle.
It canāt handle burning subtitles for more than ā maybe ā one 10 Mbps H.264 stream.
Many thanks for the very useful info and tips, it seems the DS1520+ would be suitable for me.
When sharing my media with 8 remote users, Iāve never seen more than 4 simultaneous streams at any one time, besides, my broadband upload speed is only 20Mbps so it likely wouldnāt have the bandwidth to support any more.
I donāt have very many 7.1 or subtitled media files so I doubt Iād hit those limits very often if ever.
Thanks again.
