Tagging commentary subs?

Is there any way to label subs for the commentary track, like there is with SDH and Forced?

Google has a reddit thread from two years ago saying it didn’t exist yet, and nothing when searching the forum, figured I’d check in.

To my knowledge, this is only possible for embedded subs in MKV containers. While there are in fact even dedicated meta tags for “commentary” in the MKV specification, Plex is as of yet not able to read them.
So the workaround is to fill the “track title” tag with a suitable description.

The standard tool to achieve this is MKVToolNix news – Matroska tools for Linux/Unix and Windows

(Since this is only a type of “commentary text”, Plex is not able to use it for automatically selecting a subtitle track. The only thing that will happen, is that the text will appear in many Plex client types in the subtitle selection dialog.)

Ok so I did this inside MKVToolNix, but Plex doesn’t seem to see it (not the external ones, just the two en SRT at the top)

As I mentioned above, Plex doesn’t red those tags (except the “forced” tag). You need to use the field “Track name” at the top.

Ah, that did it. Thank you
