Hi
I want to add custom tags to files so I can Identify videos using their tags.
But I am unable to see Tags Column in list view
There’s feature suggestions to add some more tags as columns to list view:
None of them have attracted a lot of votes yet
Thanks for prompt response.
Does Plex only add High demand feature or does it also work on ‘useful feature’.
There might be possibly certain feature its a deciding factor to use the app.
I think if its easier to implement, then there should not be any ‘stopping/voting’ to implement the feature.
In case if its hard to implement then it should be debatable.
Plex doesn’t really comment on their roadmap or confirm what they’re working on. There’s a number of suggestions with lots of votes that haven’t been implemented over years – still… the number of votes is a good indicator if users are interested in that particular feature… so more votes gives it some probability.
That really strange for me. Should I be hopeful that feature will be added or should I accept that there is no chance of improvement.
Feature like these are too old requested and with many votes and replies, still I feel like this software will not have some user friendly feature.
and many more.
I am confused should I promote this app among my friends and family ?
Plex has added tons of “user friendly features”.
Sometimes, requests are contradicting each other or they have to prioritize their resources. So not everything gets done.
Clearly there’s some suggestions I’d love to get implemented… still even without those, Plex is a great product.
To me it’s worth voting or promoting some of the feature suggestions I like.
As for promoting it among your friends… that’s up to you and your judgement if they can bear not seeing tags/genre information in the web app list view (or if they won’t ever see that).
I do agree Plex is very useful. I recently set it up and I am loving it. There are many useful features in it. But if it get stuck at some feature then gradually it will become obsolete.
I give example of Clickup a task management software. Their tag line is ‘one software replace all.’ And they are true to it.
I have tried many task management software but Clickup replaced all. And on top of that their customer support is No 1. I get feeling Plex will adapt customer support like Click Up.
I want to feel excited when I open Plex, I dont feel annoyed when a some specific things are missing.
Thanks for your time. and I hope you can communicate (if you can) with Plex Technical team for above requests.
Sometimes it can be helpful to review your use case.
Usually there’s multiple ways to achieve something – so there might be some more user friendly way to do it if the approach you’re used to is not available.
Specifically to your original request…
I suppose you’re aware that you can easily filter your entire library by those tags?
The library bar usually shows All
| Movies
| By Title
, where…
All
allows to apply a filter – e.g. instead of All
you could filter to movies with a certain genre/collection tag; this includes the creation of custom filters with a tailored combination of various parametersMovies
(or Shows/Artists depending on the library type) lets you select the display mode (e.g. switching to folder view or seasons/episodes, albums/tracks)By Title
allows to apply a different orderThanks for detailed response.
You explanation sort out the files according to custom filter which partially meet my requirement.
This is what I expected from support to evaluate the use case then propose solution/suggestions instead of referring to vote the idea.
So I thank you for help.
But still my request exist, I still need custom column in the list view to identify which files have been assigned which tags and which doesn’t have those tags.
Currently its multiple click solution. If a custom column are added in list view then it will become one click solution.
See example in Windows File Explorer.
Important tags are already in the list but user can add more as he desired.
So it doesn’t affect the user which don’t need extra details.
That filter method is unfortunately pretty useless for music genres. Plex only lets you filter on the built-in genres.
This is also the case in the advanced filter.
What’s also interesting is that the advanced filter makes it clear that Plex only understands genre for the artist. There is no track genre option available.
This is despite having both of the local metadata preferences turned on in music library settings.
What is interesting is that in the Album view it will show you a partial list of the genres from tags in the album view.
Those genre names are hyperlinks. If I click one, then the library filter for that genre will activate.
So, to use a genre filter, I need to first navigate to an album that uses that genre, and hope that the genre is selected by Plex to be displayed, if there are multiple present.
This seems more complicated than it needs to be. Worse, genre apparently being connected to the artist, not the track, makes it impossible to do something like “show me all ‘house’ tracks in my library.”
