The proper noun should be “mistake” instead of “lie”.
Using “lie” is implying malicious intent.

Many users (inadvertently) create several different Plex accounts.
This could have happened years ago, too.
You can send me the email address per PM, and I can investigate whether this is about the account which you are nowadays using or some old and forgotten account.
Ah Thank you. That’s what it was. My gmail address normally has a dot in it and that’s what my Plex Pass account uses. The automated email came to the same address but there was another account somehow created without the dot in it. Gmail ignores dots for email. So it literally is the same email address. But Plex had two accounts for me. I logged on to the one without the dot and deleted the account.
I apologise to the email automation for accusing it of lying, and to everyone who jumped to its defense. ![]()
Dang, Plex has really been working the last few months to make me move to a different platform for my private media. Guess it’s time to check out the other options, because I’m tired of all the constant tinkering we have to do with Plex.
I’m not sure I can follow your argument or see how it’s linked to this thread?
Though I think I appreciate you specifically joined 6 minutes ago to tell us…
I only joined a few minutes ago because it’s the first time I’ve needed to post in the forums. You can see I’m a user from years back.
Don’t worry, I’m looking for alternates to Plex, I’ll be gone soon enough.
They are only a volunteer forum mod and can only see your time on forum.
Assume it has to do with the username change of folks who left it as their email which was done so it is not displayed on places like this forum, but don’t know what your precise concern is with that in order gather feedback to pass along, or if we can address.
I received notice that a username has been set for my managed accounts. Since the name is somewhat cryptic I logged on to see how to change and don’t find I can set a user name except on my primary account (none of the managed accounts have this option). Am I missing something? Apparently a username was assigned (based on the email I received).

Are you sure that notice was about actual managed users and not regular accounts you invited into your Plex Home?
Because…
If you go to https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/plex-home you will see you Plex Home. Managed accounts can only be in a Plex Home and will say “managed account” on their row. You change their username by clicking on that row and on the page it brings you to go to the Profile tab.

Check which was listed as the recipient of that email. Regular accounts which have emails can only be changed on their account page when signed into that account.
Ugh Plex are really anti the user here, so they have just randomly created rubbish usernames!!! Jellyfin is looking more and more appealing here as Plex are just on a road into crappiness
How is trying to make sure a users email is not exposed anti user?
Your friends can change their username at https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/account.
BW, none of my users care one bit about their username or anything Plex-related in general. So, they all just let Plex change their email to a very short, mostly unrecognizable username. Now it’s up to me to decipher who’s who. That’s why I brought this up in the main thread the other day, because we, the admins, really need a way to assign nicknames to our unmanaged users.
EDIT: actually, I just realized, this is the main thread LOL
It’s a security and privacy issue having e-mail addresses exposed to the general public like that. Therefore the change.
There could be real world consequences otherwise.
Oh, I fully understand that. I’m perfectly fine with the new usernames on the user’s end, but I’d like to change them on my end ![]()
You can’t and never will be able to change usernames on another persons account. If you wanted to do that you should have created a managed user for them and then logged them in via your account but I woudn’t necessarily do that unless they are trusted.
That’s why I said “nicknames”, an alias just for you, if you will.
That wont necessarily work either because some users have or could have access to more than one server.
It’ll work for the server admin. That’s what matters ![]()
If you mean a little note you can add to the account on your end then sure.
