Thumbnails Generation + Plex Dirs + Multi-Core Processes

Hey guys, I know this have been discussed in other posts but from what I could gather it all ends the same (people find a solution but Plex doesn’t seem to improve this subject).

Like many others my problem is solved, I needed to change the directory where the thumbnails where being stored (solved by creating a new key in the registry for plex media server, passing the new dir as it’s value).

Although it’s solved I would like to get some clarifications, and if possible a feature request, regarding this theme.

There’s no way to specify a path to save the preview thumbnails, I was forced to relocate my entire local plex media server data to the desired location, and it’s a messy way to do it.

It’s not possible to see the amount of time that the generation of thumbnails will take.
It’s not clear if the generation of thumbnails is single or multi-core.

What I would like to see (and please correct me if what I’m asking is impossible):

  • A field to input the path for the generated thumbnails.
  • A button next to that field that enables/disables thumbnail generation (master switch or by library, like we have now in each library).
  • A process that analyzes my media and tells me how much time is left regarding thumbnail generation, this should be filtered by library.

Regarding the single or multi-core topic, I’ve seen conflicting reports from users but from what I can see in my task manager it’s multi-core, although my Plex dashboard tells me another thing completly (regarding CPU only). What do I suggest:

  • Have a enhanced and more detailed dashboard that is hidden by default, but by selecting “Show advance mode” the dashboard now transforms into a real powerhouse of information. Similar to what we already have in the other settings.

Maybe these are the problems and suggestions of a fool, if that’s the case please teach me a better way to do things, if not I ask your support in elevating this to get the devs attention.
Also a roadmap feature would be awesome!!!
Thank you.

Edit: Thank you @FordGuy61 for the quick category fix, I misclicked for sure.

The thumbnails are not stored in 1 location so this wouldn’t be possible/practical. Things are stored per video.

A button next to that field that enables/disables thumbnail generation (master switch or by library, like we have now in each library).

With the above not possible, you wouldn’t need this.

A process that analyzes my media and tells me how much time is left regarding thumbnail generation, this should be filtered by library.

There is no way to know this. The process depends on the source video and some are quicker than others.

Regarding the single or multi-core topic, I’ve seen conflicting reports from users but from what I can see in my task manager it’s multi-core

AFAIK, the process is 2 steps. Each is single thread but they may overlap so multiple threads may be used at once.

Have a enhanced and more detailed dashboard that is hidden by default, but by selecting “Show advance mode” the dashboard now transforms into a real powerhouse of information.

Please specify exactly what you want to see for this request.

I see, a shame the thumbnails process can’t be optimized, it’s a point I would like to see get better (faster, more clear to the user and easily manipulated).

Regarding the Dashboard info, I use my old iPad to monitor things when I’m not in my computer, so my POV is from a device that can’t pull up a Windows Task Manager (or similar utilities from Mac or Linux). Having said that, my major interest is temperature, per core and total.
GPU utilization and temperature could also be interesting to see, although I think the hit on modern GPUs is minimal, not everyone has a good GPU.
Fan speed is probably a strech, not sure how other users see this.
