Tips and tricks

@jdd561 That’s strange. Does ABC, etc show up as the same channel number or 2 different numbers?

Channel listing is not loading, stuck at 4% and just spinning. Was working earlier today after initially upgrading to premium. Using HDHOMERUN on Comcast.

I had a similar problem with the channel listing loading. I couldn’t get it to work in Firefox on MacOS. I was able to get it to work on Chrome. I did Google and search the forums but didn’t find anything. Maybe my search term was bad. I was searching for “Unable to load channel mappings” which was the error returned.

I also watched the traffic with the dev tools for FF and could see the request was timing out. I did not watch the traffic with Chrome because it worked.

When I tried to load the mappings it did hang at around 80% before failing. I know that is a lot farther than you are getting. All that to say try another browser and see if that helps.

I just recently enabled DVR and wanted to ask a couple of questions.

  • Aspect ratio on iPhone/iPad is not right when viewing Live TV? My TV shows and movies libraries are fine.
  • When will friends be able to access DVR Live TV and Recordings?
  • Web UI doesn’t give me the option to Live Play, only record. I’m using Nvidia Shield.

Is possible to have more traditional TV Guide. Like we have on set-top box or TV(connected to antenna) so I can know what’s on on each channel and what’s upcoming. Something like the attached image

@bhavinafricawala Guess you did not see forums.plex.tv/discussion/289552/program-guide-update-grid-a-licious#latest from September 28. It is pinned at the top of the DVR & Live TV forum.

I hadn’t seen it either! Yahoo!!!

New to the Plex DVR setup. So far I’m finding it very unreliable. Sometimes it works flawlessly. Othertimes I go to check the status and hours later (long after the shows have ended) it still shows as recording, only to find out later that the shows never save. Other times, the recording never starts or ends quickly.

I think it’s possible that if I tune into the HDHomeRun tuner from another TV while recording is happening that it hoses up. But that’s just a wild guess on my part.

Disregard: I found my issue in another thread (looks like a bug)

Does anyone else have issues streaming remotely or even locally? I have the HDHomeRun Extend, which offers hardware transcoding, but the output stream when using Plex even on the local LAN keeps buffering and attempts to transcode the MPEG2 stream. Watching the same show through the HDHomeRun app is flawless.

PMS is running on an Nvidia Shield, HDHomeRun is connected via Ethernet to the same switch.

I’m sure there is a configuration I’m missing so any help would be appreciated.

A few things I wanted to share with you

There are some new options for shows if you bring up the Advanced preference pane. Be careful, you can DELETE YOUR CONTENT. I like setting the episode sort to put newer episodes first for nightly type shows. If you look carefully in the music Artist Advanced preferences you’ll see a similar sorting option.

I can’t for the life of me find this pane. Is it still present in PMS 1.9.7?

If so, please tell me what page I have to be on to access this (show page? season page? episode page?) and which menu/button to click.

If not, please remember to include the [then-]current version number of PMS when you post “hey, here’s a feature!” posts.

Thanks.

I have HDHomerun successfully recording and want other users in my family to be able to view recorded TV shows. I bought a second PlexPass hope this would enable the user to see the recorded TV shows. They can get “Channels” but not recorded TV. Any tips?

You didn’t need a second Plex Pass. They could log into a Plex client with their free Plex Pass. You would need to follow the instructions at support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/204226753-Friends

Thank you for your input. I have my family set up as friends/users this does not address my specific issue. It appears that I the Administrator/User am the only account who can schedule recording from my HDHomeRun tuner. This is Ok but not optimal. I would like a user to be able to “schedule recording” and watch recorded content.

I am running Plex a custom built WIN 10 Core-i7 7700 8 GB/SSD machine with a Synology 8TB NAS HDHomeRun/Chromecasts over a Ubiquiti commercial grade GB network

Yes, unfortunately that’s the way it’s set up right now. Doesn’t make much sense to me. I’d like to allow certain users the ability to record too. There was a post recently stating LiveTV for managed users would be coming, but so far no news that I’ve seen mentioning allowing recording for managed users. Seems like a natural feature to add though.

I will keep my eyes open for the update. Thanks for verifying my observation that it is not presently possible.

Only the Plex Pass owner of the DVR can schedule shows. It says here support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/226074728-Setting-Up-Recordings that " It’s important to remember that only the server owner/admin can set up and manage recordings. Once recorded, though, content can be made accessible to shared users just like normal." You just need to be sure that the library that you are recording content to is shared to the user. Only the owner can currently watch Live/TV (Program Guide).

  1. Make certain all of your apps are updated to current versions.
  2. Make certain that your user is a Managed User, not a user that has their own plex account that you just added into your Home users. It will say Managed User under the user name on the Users page.

I just added a HDHomeRun Connect and my Managed Users have access to Program Guide (NOT Recording Schedule or the Record button on the program icon). They have access either on the current LAN WiFi or from external LTE.

Other users (all users and friends) will be able to view the DVR Recordings if you have set them up for share to that folder.

UPDATE: Does NOT need to be a managed user. I just confirmed this with a family member. They DO have to have their own plex account if they are going to be accessing from outside your local LAN.

So I just got HDHome run Quad and have hooked it up to my Plex a. I can only pick up 4 channels.3 of them being NBC. If I put the Antenna in another area I get 4 different channels mostly CBS. If I use a splitter and two different indoor antennas will I be able topics up more channels or will it just be a waste of money>

Install a low bypass filter to remove the MoCA signal.
