[Transcoder] Sync fails when using hardware transcoding, streaming works on the same file

Server Version#: 1.13.9.5456
Player Version#: Web Client 3.73.2

Server uses hardware transcoding, Intel E3-1245v6. Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

When trying to sync Atomic Blonde remux to my iPad with hardware transcoding allowed, the trancoder fails to fall back to software decoding, and the entire sync fails.

If I do the same thing but streaming instead (same settings, 20mbit 1080p), hardware decoding also fails but it successfully falls back to software decoding.

Attached logs of the sync failure, the streaming fallback, as well as the mediainfo of the file.

1st question: Why is VAAPI failing on this particular file?
2nd question: Why does software decoding fallback not work for sync?

Stream falls back to software decoding_encoding.txt (43.1 KB)
Sync transcoder failure.txt (3.1 KB)
Atomic_Blonde_mediainfo_windows.txt (15.2 KB)
Atomic_Blonde_mediainfo.txt (14.9 KB)

Please try it again with 1.13.4.5271 (link from my G-drive) https://drive.google.com/open?id=1BZEy6YTGlP-9-GyM-jc1oXmOKFYqFeK7

Then collect the full DEBUG log zip (Settings - Server - troubleshooting - download logs)
It’s easier for you and for me when all are in one file (ZIP)

Still failed with 1.13.4.5271.

@f18cc

We need a major step back here.

  1. Docker (changes everything)
  2. Your database is grossly damaged.

I strongly suggest you start over in the docker image.

In the future, Docker is not for the Linux forum, even if hosted on a Linux machine. (It’s that unique)
In the future, an orderly shutdown of the active image will prevent this. Somehow it was ‘hard terminated’. The DB didn’t have the opportunity to write all info to disk.

So I should rebuild my entire library? I see in the errors that it’s failing on dca_decoder download failure.

just rebuild. the whole database is destroyed. It is beyond recovery

New container time.

Would you recommend staying with 1.13.4.5271?

Yes. 1.13.4

Rebuilt my container and library from scratch. Sync still fails with hardware transcoding enabled.

You are having all kinds of connectivity errors and, unfortunatley, being docker, I don’t know how that translates to the host layer getting out to Plex.tv. It’s reasons like this I never use it. With the level of portability Linux natively affords, I find docker an encumbering layer of abstraction which serves me no purpose other than heartburn.

I will install the native Fedora plexmediaserver and report back.

Installed plexmediaserver from the official rpm repo, running Fedora 28. Server version 1.13.9.5456.

Still failed to sync with hardware transcoding enabled.
