Transcoding of H.265 media On Samsung Q70 Tizen that supports h.265

I recently acquired a Samsung Q70. This is a 4K Tv that supports h.265 playback.

The device is recognized by Plex as Samsung Tizen

The “Samsung Tizen” profile does not allow for direct playback, thus transcoding.

I have modified the profile in “/usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Resources/Profiles/Samsung Tizen.xml” to allow H265. Solves my problem. No more transcoding: smoother playback.

  1. How do I make sure that this change is not overriden during the next software update.
  2. Ideally, can I create a specific profile for the Q70 Samsung series. and how do I make the plex server recognize and use it ?

To make permanent

  1. Create directory `/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Profiles
  2. Copy the XML file there and make readable by user plex.

Anything you do in /usr/lib/plexmediaserver will be erased when next updated.

Creating a new profile for my Tv, other than modifying the generic Samsung Tyzen profile is easy or I should forget about it?

Did I misunderstand:

This sounds like you have a modified profile & solution.

Take that profile file and copy it as I have shown above.
