Ultraviolet Library Links

Any idea(s) about PLEX linking to Ultraviolet libraries, the same way VUDU, Flixster, Paramount, Sony and Universal does?

Buy movies & TV shows once, add them to your online UltraViolet Library at no cost, then instantly stream and download to a wide variety of devices at home and on the go.

I’d love this myself. I have a giant collection and hate having to use the awful Vudu app to access everything.

I also vote for this one. I would love to have my movies all in one location. I do not want the copy on my server (I understand the DRM issue and space required) I just want my UV movies in my PLEX movie directory just like I have in VUDU / Flixster.

I have a huge UV library! It would be amazing if I could somehow take advantage of it in plex…

Don’t forget to ā€œLikeā€ the OP for your fvote to count…

This could apply to all streaming services that sell content, including UV, iTunes Movies, Amazon Video, Vudo, Fandango, etc.

It could also apply to physical media, like Blu-ray and DVD discs one hasn’t ripped.

There could just be a general ā€œplaceholderā€ format that just notes that it’s a physical media item, and/or a link to the streaming service’s app or URL.

Ideally, the icon of the service (UV, iTunes, etc.) or disc format (Blu-ray, DVD, etc.) could be overlaid in the corner of the Poster art for the item, and such items could be filterable.

Essentially, this is similar to other requests for making Plex the media library a lot of us would like it to be.

Thye question is how would one get such items into Plesk. Automating the big players like UV and iTunes would be nice, but there might need to be a less automated way of dealing with others.

The others (CinemaNow, Fandango, Sony, Paramount, Universal, Vudu & Flixter) are all ā€˜Linked Services’ to UltraViolet accounts, uvvu.com, so why couldn’t Plex be added as a ā€˜linked’ service also, the same as others.

The difference is I’m pretty sure all those others each host their own copies of the movies to share the streaming distribution load. Plex would not do that — I’m assuming, as they don’t host any content themselves — so Plex would have to link to the user’s preferred streaming service instead. The question is whether or not they could be a ā€œlinked serviceā€ to get a user’s UV library listing, without aiding in the streaming distribution like the others. Disney Movies Anywhere is similar.

Some of the partners are studios who make movies and others are just streaming services. I’ve never checked each partners libraries against each other to see if Sony will streaming me a Paramount movie, or vise versa.

I guess Plex would have to investigate uvvu.com’s ā€˜linked services’ digital copy licensing agreements. Plex not hosting content might have to use Peer to Peer for a solution or cut a streaming deal with the partners.

(Note: Flixter was bought by Warner Bros; CinemaNow was sold in Jan '17 to UK-based company FilmOn; Fandango seems to be a consortium of large theater exhibitors; and Vudu is WalMart.)
