i don’t really understand what will be the impacts for my users who are watching plex with their smartphones
one part say the following :
When running your own Plex Media Server as a subscriber, other users to whom you have granted access can also stream from the server (whether local or remote), without ANY additional charge—not even a mobile activation fee
then after it says this :
Playing content on a local network will be free in the new mobile apps
I Have the lifetime plex pass as an admin of my own plex server, but my users (some of which who are OUTSIDE of my local network) don’t have the plex pass, they have paid for the one time unlock app.
when this changes will apply, will they need to buy the new plex watch pass to unlock the app ? or the limitation of 1 minute will be removed as i have the plex pass ?
I do not have a Plex Pass, but stream remotely from a Plex Media Server:
To stream remotely starting on April 29, 2025, you will need a Remote Watch Pass or Plex Pass subscription on your account or the admin of the Plex Media Server from which you stream will need a Plex Pass subscription on their account
Yes but this sentence is for the changes applied to the remote watch imo. I know that me and my users won’t be concerned to this changes as i have the plex pass as the admin server. My questions is more focused on the changes applied to the smarpthones fee
But as long as this app hasn’t been released, the unlock fee is still required for the mobile apps.
i.e. the current generation of mobile apps will not be changed.
Since you have a Plex Pass no one that you granted access to your server libraries needs the Remote Watch Pass the to stream from your server with the new app.
