There is an issue in PMS where it can sometimes incorrectly match a movie with an existing movie in the database. Whilst the issue of fixing the match is solvable via the PMS interface it also sets the date added to the same as the existing movie in the database which is incorrect.
Could PMS either be changed to ensure that when you add a movie the date added field is set correctly (even if the match does not work), or add the ability to update the date added field to the interface, which would allow you to fix the issue when the data matching goes wrong.
Thanks for the update ChuckPA. I can explain the issue below with the latest example of it happening, but as all the files are stored in the sqllite database of Plex I’m not sure that I can supply you with the filenames , dates etc.
The example
Yesterday I purchased the new Grinch film and copied it onto my NAS drive. The filename was ‘The Grinch (2018).mp4’. This file had a modified date of 13th March 2019.
I then updated by movies library by clicking on the scan library files option in the Plex UI.
Plex found the new files, but matched them to the existing film (Dr Suess How the Grinch Stole Christmas) which I added to the library 3 years ago. The filename for the Dr Seuss film was ‘Dr Suess How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000).mp4’. This file had a modified date of 28th April 2016.
I then (using the Plex UI) split the movie and fixed the match on both films to ensure that they were correct (the Grinch being the film released in 2018 and the Dr Suess one being the film released in 2000).
All that was correct, BUT the date added for the new film (The Grinch (2018)) was set to 3 years ago (i.e. when I added the Dr Suess film). I did check the files and the modified date of both files had not changed from before.
