Extract the digital hdmi audio signal from the HDMI input and convert it to 2 channel analog stereo output or 5.1 channel Audio output
Interesting! So this extractor is able to convert the audio format on its own.
That would work indeed.
The previous one might also work, since I can change the HDMI (ARC) audio format trough the LG “secret” service menu (to AC3). Sadly this feature doesn’t exist for PCM, which always return stereo 2.0.
This is not the fault of the converter. You can only put 2 channels in PCM format through a TOSlink “wire”. There is not enough “bandwidth” available for more channels.
In other words TOSlink/SPdif is the ‘most basic’ of all connections for multichannel sound. All you can funnel through it is AC3 sound in 5.1 @48kHz 16Bit sample frequency.
No higher bitrate ‘resolution’
no higher sample frequency
no higher channel count (7.1 or ATMOS are out of the question)
