Updating the LG webOS Plex

Player Version#: 3.88.0

Something I just discovered is that it appears to me that in order to have plex update itself one must unplug/fully power off the TV. On restart I ran the LG plex app and noticed that the version was 3.88.0 when previously it was 3.86.1. Hope this helps someone.

Not really my 2018 LG updated on start up from standby. But it is to be noted it’s common practice to power down the TV if something goes wrong.

You could be right but I’d like to know when version 3.88.0 became available because yesterday the version of plex on my LG was 3.86.1 and I run it all the time and I turn my TV off when I’m done watching. Anyone know when 3.88.0 became available?

Here a link to announcement for LG smart Tv’s. Just Check the watch option at bottom of page and have notification in your forum setting on. This way you will be notified in your email box.

Finally subtitle have color …wish there have grey color option though…now use blue because other color still too bright when watch HDR movie,

I’ve just signed up for Plex Pass and want to be able to record from the LG TV and store the recordings on a Synology NAS server running Plex server. A post on this forum says “the LG plex app … version was 3.88.0 when previously it was 3.86.1”.

Just a few days ago I loaded the Plex Player from the LG Content Store and I have version 2.1.0 dated 7/9/2016. Nowhere in the app can I find anything about setting up recordings of FTA TV. Does it exist in that version? Is that functionality in a newer version? How can I get a newer version when the LG content store only has the older version?

Any help much appreciated.

Check the version number when Plex is running (it updates itself). Go to the Plex player settings and you’ll find the version.

Thanks for the response. See earlier posting. Currently have 2.1.0. Nothing newer apparently available in LG Content. Can I force an update? Can I record live TV with the newer version of Media Player?

In Plex Media Sever settings check Authorised Devices and you will see which LG client version your TV is running. Alternatively go to LG app settings/about.

Plex will not record from a TV.

I suggest you read through these support articles do you understand how Live TV/DVR works within Plex. https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/plex-media-server/dvr-live-tv/

Hi darcilicious

You wrote: Plex will not record from a TV

Yet the page you referred me to states specifically that LG 4K TV can schedule/manage DVR recordings. The text is below. So it seems as though I should be able to record directly from the LG TV and store on the Synology NAS server.
Can anyone shed definitive light on this issue?

Which apps let me schedule/manage DVR recordings?

The following Plex apps currently allow scheduling and managing DVR recordings:
Amazon Fire TV
Android (mobile)
Android TV
Apple TV
iOS
PlayStation 4
Plex Media Player
Plex Web App
Roku (preview version)
Smart TV (LG 4K/UHD [webOS 2.0+], Samsung 2016+ UHD)
Xbox One

I think you will find that means that you can manage your recordings (on an already attached device) through the app on that TV, not that you can record from that TV.

Please read up on Supported Tuners.

You can not record using your TV as a tuner. You must have a device that is specifically for computers to tune TV channels and TVs are not supported for this function.
