Using SSD Not on The QNAP Compatibility List? M2 or NVMe?

Server Version#: 453D
Player Version#: 1.40

Just looking at pricing on NVMe SSD’s and the ones on the QNAP compatibility list are pricey. Then looking at 2nd tier or less well know brands which are way cheaper … and seemingly with acceptable user feedback

I’m wondering if folks are using SSD or suchlike that are NOT on the compatibility lists … for any NAS maker indeed. And what results you might have had.

I’m not looking to buck the QNAP compatibility lists for the hell of it and would prefer stick to it, but just wondering if folks have had good experiences where they might have strayed from this?

Thanks

  1. The list exists for a reason
  2. If you buy junk then that’s what you’ll get
  3. If the vendor is otherwise unknown then so is the reputation and what the results will be.

This isn’t a cheap hobby.

Oh no I entirely agree as a rule Chuck and the days of making do and getting by are behind me now … I’d rather follow an approved straight line.

But sometimes it’s good to ask the question … there’s often an ‘unbranded but same’ product. We all heard and saw those stories about foods and car parts for top tier brands that also sneaked in under a cheap label.

But for sure, at this stage in life, I’ll stick with the compatible list. Thanks for confirming
