I agree that trying to stream content way above your network capabilities is nonsense.
However, you should still be able to manually change the buffer/cache size within the actual limits (most apps have such an option, including VLC on all platforms), because there are a lot of users who stream at the limit of their network bandwidth and a bigger buffer would surely help reduce playback interruptions when there are bandwidth spikes especially for un-optimized content like raw Blu-ray.
By the way, the file download function is only available with Plex PassâŠ
I have a use case when my NAS placed big-sized films not in a nice place stripped into RAID5 so some of the chunks of a file have bigger latency to read than others. It leads to video shutters while it could work normally using buffering. Iâm using Plex TV over the Android 11 TV set.
Spent awhile searching for this, very surprised that the client-side buffer/cache isnât at least configurable or variable. If I am on a client with 32GB of RAM and over 10GB free, there isnât much reason to limit the cache to ~512MB. Being able to buffer a video is incredibly useful in a lot of situations, such as in hotels with wifi ever so slightly slower than the video bitrate.
This is an unhelpful comment and willfully obtuse. I think the feature, i.e. some control over buffer size, would be useful. Other people have agreed in large numbers, hence tons people have asked for it repeatedly over the past decade plus. âWhy not just download?â Yes, why donât we all just conform to the same use case? Since we cannot simply download on all client side devices, your suggestion does not address this request what-so-ever
Support. The buffer is barely keeping up with my remote streams and intermittently have to wait for the buffer despite my network and gpu not being fully used.
On really high bitrate content the buffer is maybe a second. Sometimes internet speeds can be flakey. PLEASE implement at least a larger buffer or customizable size buffer. PLEASE.
There has, seriously, been no response to this from a Plex team member ? I would think after almost 12 years there would be some movement on it or at least a simple ânoâ.
I would love to see this as a feature. Come on Plex, we love you guys.
I love plex project, been a plex member for many years. Like (many) members already pointed out, having this feature would be a big plus, enabling better viewing experience for many supporters. Hopefully someone from the dev team will take it into consideration, since i donât think itâs that hard to implement.
It is really sad that users canât increase their buffer. With higher-resolution videos, if your internet cuts for even a second, you are buffering. It is kind of stupid. Stop ignoring your customer base and build a better product that so many people have paid for. This is why certain places stopped working with you because you have features that you ignore to bring stupid stuff that no one likes.
