Advanced Buffering to allow higher Bitrates than supported by Server upstream

This is a repost from the MyPlex Forum. The following seems to be unavailable by now... so lets make it a feature request :)

Hey,

i am not sure if this is even the right title for a request like this (and maybe it already exists). I am on a 100Mbit down / 5 Mbit up internet connection. Consequently i can only use the 4 Mbit / 720p setting for my PleXBMC Raspberry Pi on the other side of my hometown (where my parents live).

I wonder, if there is an option that would let me enjoy a higher bitrate by simply enhancing the time it takes to buffer.

For example: If i set the maximum to 10 Mbits / 1080p the Video will almost instantly begin to play but stutter every few seconds (because there is just not enough upstream available on the server side).

Wouldn't it be much better if the client could simply buffer for as long as it takes to play the movie in one piece? Meanwhile it could show a countdown (e.g. 10 minutes until Movie begins).

It would even be cooler, if i could set up a queue from PlexWeb (or the iOS App) from outside of my Wifi so that it will already begin to buffer while i am still on the road.

Isn't that how buffering is actually supposed to work? Its strange, that it directly begins to play and stutter because of the "slow" upstream...

Thank you in advance!

THIS!!! I don't get why I can't wait for it to buffer XX amount and then start it up.  A local cache of sorts.  This would finally make Plex usable at Hotels

Please&Thankyou :)

+1

but isn't it already requested?
