Video playback stops every 5-10 minutes. Transcoder or other issue?

I gonna perform a reboot of my router / switches to see if this fixes anything. I’m starting to lean towards something wrong with the infrastructure side of things as well.

Okay, I’ve been busy, lol.

I’ve moved the VM to a local SSD on the ESXi host to eliminate potential networking issues with the VM files residing on the NAS. I’ve also optimized the database, removed some lingering sync issues and am no longer receiving any SLOW QUERY errors.

Still having the same issue with video timeout. Shaka error has gone away again…

Here’s the latest logs.

Responses may be delayed…I’m in a different timezone from the U.S. and it’s getting late~

Sleep well.

Please check on this when you wake.

I went ahead and just blasted away the PMS database and more or less started from scratch. Once my library finishes re-building (1700 movies / 240 tv shows) I’ll check to see if this may have alleviated anything.

I’ll be traveling starting tomorrow, so my responses in this thread may be slow, but I’ll be back on this issue full time once I return in about 10 days.

I’ll see if can get an updated log uploaded after my re-build finishes in the next few hours.

Thanks!

Okay, here are the updated logs.

These logs include a transcode with Chrome over PlexWeb, my friend streaming from his house over Xbox, and another stream using the Plex App on my iPhone. This was all going on around the same time (right after a reboot of the server).

The iPhone stopped first about 7 minutes in, same symptoms as before, but started backup again like 1-2 seconds later transcoding like normal. I decided to let it keep running to see if it would do it again. It stopped about another 7 minutes later and started back up again, just like before.

The Chrome and Xbox session stopped about 9 and 13 minutes in respectively and did not start back up until manual intervention (my friend on the Xbox closed the session and restarted, but it stopped again about 10 minutes later).

No Shaka errors~

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

I’ve moved the VM files to a local SSD on the ESXi host.
Media files are still being accessed over the network on my Synology NAS
Updated all firmware/software on all devices/software involved - i.e. - Cisco, Ubuntu, VMware, Synology, etc.
I’ve completely rebuilt my Plex database from scratch (1.9.7.4460)
I’ve optimized/cleaned/emptied trash for the database after adding all my media back (multiple times).

Exact same issue arises…

I’m at my wit’s end here…I’m not sure what else to do~

I have found a problem. This should not be possible.

Observe the time stamp. Time has regressed 7 minutes?

I have been experiencing the same issue the original poster, not sure if adding in here would help or should make a separate posting as still working on this (not generally one to try and hijack, but would that be a duplicate post?).

Edit: Just moved it off to a separate posting, shouldn’t be duplicate since its a different user?

Apologies for the late update.

I went through and checked all time time settings for my server/network devices and everything was out of wack. After fixing NTP server settings, this resolved my issue. Everything is working flawlessly now.

Thanks for all the help Chuck!

I know this is an old thread, so apologies in advance for resurrecting it!
I have 2 friends of mine who access my server. We’re in different timezones (finland vs canada).
Of all the people that access my server, only my 2 mates in canada seem to have issues with the stream stopping and having to restart the app to get it back. This happens all the time.
If anyone could shed any light on this it would be greatly appreciated.

@M3th0s

With everything that’s changed since 2017, would you mind creating a fresh thread for this.
This one should have auto-closed when we moved but somehow didn’t.

Also, it’s not too likely to be the same issues as it was 2 years ago. A Fresh thread would avoid any such confusions.

Thanks.
C.
