Vizio app plays commentary when not selected

If I have a media main track and a commentary track, when playing the media on my vizio smart tv, it plays the commentary even if the main track is selected. I’ve been able to work around this by just casting to the device via my ipad but broken within vizio app. Can duplicate it on multiple files.

On the Plex web client, could you get the XML for one of the videos that does this?

From the item’s options select Get Info and then View XML on the bottom left of that dialog.

Thanks

Let me know if you need anything else additional.Apollo 13 xml file info.zip (121.0 KB)

Do you have DTS enabled in settings, and if so does disabling that fix the issue? Also could you let me know what it says for Chipset in SettingsAbout?

Thanks.

If I disable DTS I get do get get the correct audio.

The chipset is MTK-5597(1)

You should leave that disabled.
The TV you have doesn’t support DTS. You should only enable that if your TV is connected to an audio receiver that supports DTS where everything is configured properly and where it actually works. I’m trying to find out from Vizio, but I’m not sure this ever works for those models (all reports from people so far have been that it doesn’t work for models with these chipsets, but people don’t often come to the forums to say something is working ).

What happens when you enable this setting is that the app now thinks DTS will work. Since the TV doesn’t support DTS, it ignores those tracks and plays the first track it can - in this case the commentary track. Without that enabled, the app knows DTS won’t work and requests the server transcode the audio into a format the TV does support.

Hey sorry for the delay. I have the audio pass through to my Vizio sound bar that does support DTS but not DTS-HD. The model of the sound bar is SB3651-E6. Supports dolby digital and dts surround and dts studio. It is connected through hdmi using arc.

I use tautulli to monitor my server and on the times it was trying to play dts-hd it was trying to direct play it to my tv/sound bar which does not support dts-hd. So it probably fell back to the commentary track that was not DTS-HD.

In doing all this I have also found that they vizio client does not distinguish between DTS and DTS-HD.

Vizio client states Alien audio as DTS-HD. Plex web client states it is DTS. It does not pass through the DTS signal which my sound bar supports. After looking at this more lol. All plex web client seems to show DTS where as the Vizio client shows dts-hd. So hard to troubleshoot as I don’t know the audio codec of most of my files. I rely on plex for that to remind me lol. Some are true DTS and other DTS MA which I assumed it was labeling DTS-HD.

Found a couple other weird things, will open a separate ticket.

Have you ever been able to direct play DTS? All the reports I’ve seen so far indicate for models with your chipset that regardless of what the sound bar supports, DTS fails - the TV doesn’t pass the audio through.

I honestly don’t recall ruuk. I will keep an eye out for ya.
