Server Version#: 1.40.5.8897
Player Version#: N/A
Debian 12.6
This morning I did the update to 1.40.5.8897 and for the first time got a warning when doing an update. Since this is a warning about the gpg file, I have to ask why.
This is the warning from the update process:
PlexMediaServer install: WARNING: Unable to install Plex GPG signing key in /usr/share/keyrings/plexmediaserver.gpg
PlexMediaServer install: PlexMediaServer-1.40.5.8897-e5987a19d - Installation successful. Errors: 0, Warnings: 1
Everything seems to be working OK but I expect the gpg file is necessary for updates or connectivity so …
Two questions.
I’ve been running this Plex server for years and it has been on Debian 12 for about 6 months. Why the issue now?
How do I fix this?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Engineering and operations are changing from the SHA-1 signing key (which is grossly deprecated and nastily obsolete) to a 512bit package signing key.
There are a couple issues with getting it to build and sign properly on the build system. It’s almost resolved.
Notice the installer is giving you a warning. It’s not a fatal error.
It’s just an annoying warning until they resolve it (shortly)

Thanks for the info @ChuckPa .
So we can expect that it will be resolved in a future update?
Yes. We talked about it (got update) in last weeks staff meeting. We use Github Actions for part of the build. Those Github Actions are the source of the issue.
