Hi - excited to see this new functionality and will be very useful for me.
My IOS plex client app has updated and working well.
But when I access plex via web browser or via my Amazon fire TV cube then the new functionality doesnt seem to have been rolled out yet. I got the email about it all 7 days ago.
I understand that Amazon app store can be a bit behind, so maybe thats the answer for the cube.
But don’t understand why the web client wouldnt have updated?
I am using a Mac as the media server and its version is Version 1.25.9.5721-965587f64. Hitting check for updates says I am up to date.
Can anyone offer any insight into this? Is it just a case of waiting?
Make sure you’re using a supported version of those clients:
- Plex Web → requires the hosted Plex Web for now (bundled versions accessed through your server’s local IP don’t yet support this)
- FireTV / Android clients → version 9.0 or newer should work (though there were some early betas of 9.1 which did not yet include the new features)
Got it… thanks.
Tried app.plex.tv on the Mac and can see Watchlist and Discover now, so that’s great.
Fire TV - Amazon uk app store is still showing Latest Plex app version 8.31.2.31546 so it hasnt updated yet. I guess I could side load, but maybe just need to be patient as assume it will just be a week or so to catch up?
From what I’ve understood, Amazon take their time approving updates to FireTV apps.
Hi Naubin, I have Windows 11, Nvidia Shield and Fire TV Stick 4K Max: FireOS 7.2.7.3 (22851239556 (7273/2622)).
I can tell you that the discover function works perfectly on Windows and Nvidia. However, it does not work in any way on Fire TV Stick 4K Max which, moreover, is updated to the latest version.
The article Discover Source (Beta) | Plex Support where it is stated that the discover beta function is supported by “Amazon Fire TV (v9.0.1 or newer)” is patently incorrect as a statement, because no version of Fire TV comes remotely to version 9> Fire TV Device and Accessory Software Updates - Amazon Customer Service
The reference is clearly wrong and refers to Android TV, so much so that as I wrote before on Nvidia Shield the Discover Beta function works perfectly.
So I think we just have to wait for the release of the Fire TV version that supports the new Discover function and Universal Watchlist.
Maybe avoid writing that Fire TV comes to version 9 in such an important post and a clear answer on the point from Plex since Fire TV is a very important platform would have helped many users who appreciate these new killer features.
It’s referring to the version of the app, not the version of Fire OS. Version 9.0.5 is the most recent release of the Fire TV plex app (Plex for Android - #426 by ManuelPG).
I have updated my post so that it is clear I was referring to the Plex app, as was the article.

Great, so don’t you think it would be better to change "“Amazon Fire TV (v9.0.1 or newer)” with your “Fire TV plex app”? I’ve simply copied and pasted what you wrote.
No, because they’re clearly referring to the apps. The heading ‘App Support for Discover’ is a give away…
I have the new version of Plex working on my Windows laptop and my Android phone. My Plex app on my Fire TV Cube. I just checked the version number of my Fire TV Plex app and it is 8.31.2.31546. I uninstalled it and downloaded the Plex app from the Amazon App Library. It immediately showed that an update was available. I did not install the update. The version of my newly downloaded Plex app was 8.31.2.31546. I went through this procedure again and this time I accepted the update. The update was also 8.31.2.31546.
I can confirm that the Plex app on the Amazon Appstore for Android from the US seems to be on v 8.31.2.31546. Anyone know where to get a download of V 9.0.1 or newer in order to side load it on to the firestick? The downloads page on plex.tv seems to only have links to app stores.
Try the release notes Plex for Android - #489 by PlexAndroidReleaser
Has anyone tried this yet?
I was interested reading the notes on the release link for v9 of the android app where it says that Plex pass is required. Is it and why?
The notes also say available on Amazon app store but that’s not right surely. Maybe submitted to Amazon store but not available…?
So Plex app on the Amazon app store still hasnt been updated? I am seeing v8.31.2.31546
In the meantime there are numerous updates to the client, and now looks like it is v9.1
Is something broken? Do we need to report this somewhere?
The first v9.0 app update was 31 March!
I can understand a week or two, but its now over 4 weeks.
