I can’t sleep without the TV on. This started after the military. Guess I got used to all the activity/noise at night. Loved old classic Plex, as it ran non-stop. Old Roku gone and daughter bought me new one. But no joy with the new one, as cannot use classic Plex anymore… End up being woken by silence and have to restart Plex, to try and finish my night. Broken sleep stinks, by the way. Please tell me there is a way to change this now. I really would like a full nights sleep.
FYI Am disabled with income of 300 a mo. So rely on my Roku and Plex for TV. Free channels have lousy stuff and can’t sleep to it. lol Copied all my DVD’s to computer, so I could watch. Daughter brings me hers, when she gets new ones. So Please Fix This PLEX!
I agree this should be an option as well.
another vote for this, I would like to have a playlist on in my toddler’s room so she can wander in and out throughout the day and have something she likes always on the screen. it’s a guessing game now if i need to tell the chromecast to keep going a few times a day.
Still going on, very annoying.
What good is a built-in TV playlist if it doesn’t actually play the list?
My solution at this point is still to bypass Plex and play it in Media Player Classic Home Cinema, on Windows. Annoying to set up, but at least it works.
I have been a plex user for years and paid for the lifetime subscription, this has been such an annoyance to me and I can’t believe this hasn’t been addressed. Not even an answer, which from browsing these forums, doesn’t seem like there is much dialogue at all to many issues.
So anyhow I have found my solution, Emby.
There is an issue currently that means the ‘auto play’ setting isn’t honored on Chromecast when changed on the controlling app. We’re looking into it, since it’s an issue across the ecosystem when remote controlling apps.
We hope to fix it soon, sorry it’s such an annoyance. (We also have some vocal complaints when we always auto played. Hopefully our newer design fixes both cases).
Wow, just searched to see if there was a fix for this… I’ve been subscribed to Plex pass for a few months now, but if something as simple as a sleep timer toggle doesn’t get fixed or even addressed in this length of time, I’m unsubscribing. ■■■■■■■ ridiculous…
Lifetime member here, was always wondering why plex did this, tonight it happened again and I figured I’d do some research. If the answer is really that this is built in, and there is no way to disable this, then I think the product managers are idiots and should be fired.
Plex people, who are you to tell me thet I can’t play videos, indefinitely, from a server in the same room as my TV, on my own network that I pay for.
I want it to keep playing if the computer it is playing from stays active as well.
Really annoying.
Once it stops if you press next you have to do so every single episode.
To get another 3 you have to go back to the season and click on the second one not marked as played as the one you just watched is not markd as played.
It then asks if you want to overrride your current (totally dead) playlist.
Another vote for let it play from a Plex Pass user.
Dont know if it was mentioned but as a side note, My daughters room has a firestick which doesn’t seem to have this timeout turned on. We can start it and it’ll play all day if i don’t get a transcode error, which is another issue.
Funny, because I use Plex for the express purpose of falling asleep (the supposed reason they do this) and I find it incredibly annoying that there isn’t at least an option to let it play continuously. I feel like nobody asked for this feature, and it baffles me that, with all the improvements to Plex over the years, they still stubbornly refuse to add this option.
It is really annoying. especially as the web interface does not update to say you have watched the episode it stopped at and asks if you want to ovewrite your current playlist.
It should definitely be optional but can understand it is seen as a lower priority to all the other changes such as removing plugins (as long as the new method allows me to add regional channel plugins)
It would be good if there was Desk Mode where it played back to back without stoppage and Couch mode where it stopped for you unless progressed.
It would also be nice, in the current version of events if pressing next did the next 3 rather than just the next 1 before stopping again and then warning you you are about to overwrite the playlist of the single episode you have just watched. (ok, that maybe fixed. I have not tested it yet).
There is so much wonderful technology coming to plex but I will never use any of those released so far (appart from maybe seeing performance increase with subtitles) so it would be nice to see some of the basic UI options addressed (added) where it is not possible to please everybody so when a change is made it is made configurable. Stop after 3 episodes did not happen in the past.
Another is the reasonably recent change to wait 20 seconds rather than 15 between episodes. Ideally I’d like it to be 5 but it got longer with no option. No answer here yet:: Is there any way to shorten the delay timer between episodes?
It would just be nice to have the option to override changes that are user experience based only. Episodes before auto stop, Seconds delay between episodes for example. There may be others.
This “feature” is super annoying. I want a way to be able to turn this off so I can continuously play tv shows in the background as I work. It’s frustrating that after 3 episodes it stops playing.
This has been my biggest issue with Plex over the years, even more so than transcoder issues. My entire family likes to throw something on one of the TVs while we’re doing stuff throughout the day, and to sleep sometimes at night. We’ve resorted to dealing with Hulu or try to put on longer shows just to prevent Plex from stopping so soon. Been watching this thread since '16 and it saddens me this hasn’t been addressed… so let’s keep this alive and going into 2019!
@PlexDevs - Please, please, please, please, please fix this for us! All we ask is for is for the option to NOT stop playing after 3 episodes.
I want to +1 this. I use Chromecast from an Android phone.
It’s really odd to make this decision for the user. Why 2 hours? Why not 1? Why not 4? If people were complaining about it playing continuously, this might be the worst product decision to fix it. “Let’s make no one happy!”
I love Plex, but this has to be my biggest issue.
Another annoyed person here. Make a toggle already. Clearly a lot of people are very upset.
The only thing I want in this world is to start a show and leave it playing in the background all day.
It is actually coming up to 2 years now since this was reported. I am wondering if it has been marked as closed on the dev list so all of the additional comments over the last 2 years have not actually been seen by Plex staff, only on the community.
Is there a way to tell? Could we ask the moderators? I think I mentioned it as an asside but that was during the skipping crisis of 18 so to harp on again about this one might seem nagging if I did it.
They did resolve that in only 2 months.
It’s going to be a dificult one to please so many people across so many formats (basic seasons, (albums, artits in music) playlists that can be mixed.
As a start to how it could be options for TV show libraries as a basic option to keep 99% of the people here happy:
Stop auto episode progression (Default if that is concensus)
At [HH:MM]
After [n] (Default to 3 if that is concensus)
Hours (From start of last human interaction with episodes to start of next episode, unless huge amounts of people campaign for the additional option of estimated end of next episode)
Episides
Reset timer when episode manually changed from client (Default)
Obviously the tick boxes would be conditional based on others and so on by I couldn’t represent anything else with my ken of the forum markup.
I’d like binge watching my tv shows. not possible with plex. It is really annoying.
