I’ve been going through my music files to clean up ID3 tags using MP3Edit. I’ve noticed quite a few entries that make no sense even though their tags are correct. I’ve even tried to use the “Fix match” feature which still does not change the entry.
If you have problems in other parts of your library, it can manifest in weird ways. Specifically if your “Various Artists” stuff is not perfect, you may see that it looks like other files have problems.
The only way to succeed is to follow the folder structure, file name, and tag rules 100%. Plex is super picky.
Plex music needs to be more user friendly. I don’t know anyone that tags everything exactly the same since music collections and how someone uses/curates them is very personal.
The Various Artist aspect is killing me as far as how I like to display music.
Has nothing to do with the tags - Plex has had this database corruption bug for years, sometimes it just starts storing newly scanned albums under a completely different/random artist name. You can make it go away for a while by doing Settings → Troubleshooting → Optimize Database , after that it will match artists correctly. But eventually, it will happen again.
