My podcast is listed on iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher, TuneIn, etc., yet it’s not in the Plex directory.
Is there a way to manually submit a podcast for inclusion? Is the directory still being populated?

We’re going to be growing the podcast catalog to include more podcasts (including from around the world), but in the meantime you can add your own podcast manually. We’ve got it covered in the Podcast support article. If you’re on iOS or Android mobile, scroll down to the bottom of the main Podcast screen and click Add a Podcast by URL. In Plex Web go to Podcasts and click the + microphone button in the upper right.
Thanks. I’m more concerned about other people searching for the podcast in the directory and not being able to find it like they can in other podcast clients.
+1 on being about to add our podcast to your directory. Do you have a process in mind for how shows can submit to be included?
I’d actually like an answer to the original question: What is your source for podcasts?
Just a quick note on manually adding podcasts. The more users that add a show manually, the more likely it is to end up visibly in the catalog. So please don’t hesitate to add shows manually!

Totally get that. We do expect most users will browse or search the directory before ever thinking about manually adding a podcast. We’re actively working on growing the catalog. I ran into this myself and had to manually add a small few of my podcasts in testing.

That’s something we are considering and looking into, yes. Ideally, most podcasts (especially if they are known) should not need manual inclusion, but I could see this being of benefit for the more indie and nuanced shows.

Our catalog is sourced in many ways including employee additions and 3rd party sources. It is rapidly growing everyday and expect that all your favorites will be in there soon.

Thanks. As a podcaster, a method of submission would be greatly appreciated and is an expectation of any podcast consumption tool. Nearly all other podcasting platforms have offered this from the start in order to grow their library (ex: Spotify, Stitcher).

I think that would be great to add, and I believe it is something in consideration. Podcasts is launching today as beta, which basically means its unfinished. We have more features and refinements to make as the beta progresses, and before we remove that moniker. The current submission method is to add a podcast by URL, but that does not immediately add it to the catalog for everyone, it is for adding at the per-user level. For now, we encourage producers to publish their podcasts through the normal means and as we continuously grow our catalog, they’ll get added.
I subscribe to many podcasts in iTunes. Does Plex currently support importing my list of iTunes podcast subscriptions? If not, is the best workaround to manually subscribe in Plex to each podcast on my subscription list?

Not yet. OPML import support is coming soon, but in the meantime you have 2 options: search the catalog and add your podcasts, or 2) if your desired podcasts are not yet in our catalog, add them manually via URL.
I understand you source from 3rd party sources, but when probably like the others here, I am listed in every other source out there (excluding Spotify because of their ridiculous terms) it’s hard to see why I wouldn’t be listed here. Saying that “established” podcasts should already be listed is also a bit of a slap in the face, how can one become established if you can’t be found when searched for? Not to be totally negative because I do love plex, but I really hope you hash this out quickly because this is a pretty big thing to miss and if you’re going to claim this to be a podcast hub then you need to make tools for podcast producers as well as the consumers.

Agree - about half of the shows I listed to were included, so I had to manually add a lot of them. Notably missing were almost all ESPN podcasts (which are listed in iTunes), which seems odd. If you have certain sources you’re using, could you provide a list of them?
I know its still in beta but RSS feeds and podcast should support album art that changes per show not many will update there art every-time but the ones that do spend alot of time and it should be implemented.

Mine does show episode-specific art for some shows I added via RSS.
I’m also hoping you add a way for podcasters to submit shows. Or you could do like many podcast apps already do (like Overcast for example) and just pull the iTunes directory feed. From a podcast creator perspective, that would be preferable.
Also please add show-specific art by reading the id3 tags in the mp3 files.
