No problem.
sudo sh
cd /var/lib/dpkg
rm -f lock*
ls -la
If the lock files are still there then Synaptic wants to update software. Might be a good idea to get that done
I was able to add the Movies directory to Plex. Now its scanning. Im hoping all is well. Lets see.
Sounds GOOD
This is why the native app is makes more sense to me.
Itâs all in the same file system. What you see in a file explorer is seen everywhere else.
Maybe myopic but for home use, it doesnât need be fancy
Seems to all be there.
So I guess I need to do these steps for each directory? Then all should work like before.
One last question. Will there be any extra steps to add my HD Homerun, or do I just add it like before, in the Plex web interface?
Good news. Just tested it on my Firestick all is good in the neighborhood. If I knew you better Id come over and give you a big bear hug. Im hoping my laptop holds out a little longer as the Plex server, Im thinking it might be on its way out. I just pulled out the laptop cooler and im hoping maybe that will help a little. Ill have to decide if I want to build a new Plex Server or build a new gaming machine OR because I hate Windows so much buy a MAC. We will see. Bed time for this old man. LOL
Each share from the QNAP is added in the same steps with two exceptions:
Now that youâve done one, just cookie cutter the rest.
The DVR will be found via the GUI (I donât have cable or OTA here â satellite so canât help)
Iâm an Apple household so wonât be able to help with the Amazon.
It otherwise sounds good.
EnjoyâŠ
Have a good night.
Thanks again for the help. Everything seems to be up and running now.
Iâm finally able to physically reach this box today. This seems like as good a spot as any to ask:
The Ubuntu PMS was unpingable and the monitor wouldnât come up (ouch), but it was still lit up with the CPU fan running. I hard-rebooted it. I checked the Plex logs and I ran journalctl -b -1 -e to see the logs of the previous boot. In both cases, the logs are all nice and tidy, then they suddenly just stop. Timestamps match on both for when they stopped.
Any recommendations for the troubleshooting direction?
The machine itself just stopped or Plex stopped?
It sounds like the display (Gnome) went down. I get that from time to time. Gnome isnât the most solid yet.
Hereâs what I found when I got back:
So I really couldnât tell if there was any remaining functionality. It happened when Plex was trying to transcode to a device that had poor internet. In retrospect, itâs the second time this exact thing has happened.
So Iâm kind of guessing here. It seems worse than just the display going out. Iâll likely start by cleaning the CPU/fan and redoing the thermal paste. And I can test the memory. But beyond that, Iâm honestly not sure what direction to go.
transcoding creates heat. I would start there.
