A couple of months ago I needed to install a Beta release on a FireTV4K in order to get Alexa voice commands to work with the Plex app.
Now I have another FireTV4K that I need to perform the same upgrade to.
I can’t find the Beta version for download.
If I use the App Store build, won’t I have the same Plex player I installed from the FireRV4k GUI? AFAIK I installed the Plex App from the Amazon store, and it does not support Alexa voice commands.
I will do more testing with Alexa tomorrow. Maybe I am wrong. It would be great if the stock Amazon app can now work with Alexa. (She didn’t seem to be able to Stop, Pause, Play, Resume…)
I installed the Plex Beta app on my FireTv4K.
I linked the Plex player with my Plex account.
I power cycled the FireTV.
I went to FireTV | Settings | Applications | Manage Installed Apps and selected Plex
I have 10 items in my menu. There is nothing I can find to enable Advertise as Player.
Using the FireTV remote
“open Keiths Plex”. Alexa : “Ok”
I can see all my Plex libraries
I can use the buttons on the remote to browse and play all my content.
“open Keith Movies on Keiths Plex” Alexa : “Here’s Keys on Amazon Movies” (or something like that Not what I wanted…
“Play The Jazz Singer” on Keiths Plex" Alexa"Getting The Jazz Singer from Amazon Prime" (not from my Plex library)
The name of my FireTV4K is “Master”, confirmed on the Amazon site
6) “Play The Jazz Singer on Master” Alexa : “I can’t do that on Master. Would you like to use your FireTV?”
When I use the remote voice commands to search for a movie that is in my Plex library, (the one I just viewed using the remote control, above), nothing comes up in Other Options… Plex app doesn’t know anything about my Plex libraries when queried by voice.
This has been 2 months of work ripping disks, hundreds of dollars (probably close to a thousand) on new hardware, and extremely frustrating. And I still can’t ask Alexa to play a movie.
Does anyone know how I can “Advertise as Player” with
kepler-armeabi-v7a-amazon-9.30.0.3554-277e0fd
Does anyone understand what the frick is going on with Plex and Alexa? (I think they must be married because they can’t seem to communicate worth a darn! lol)
